Message from the President
|
|
 |
Dear (Contact First Name)
 |
| | Rens Hayes |
It is an honor to have been chosen to lead SFNE as president and with the help and support of your Board of Directors we continue to work to provide the membership with meaningful educational and networking programs as well as responsible legislative advocacy.
Currently we are moving forward to redesign the annual steel design conference with the development of a series of regionally focused meetings to be held throughout New England. The meetings will be set up as discussions between engineers, architects, detailers and fabricators. The goal is to increase steel market share by demonstrating the benefits of steel over concrete and wood.
We have also just revamped and updated the SFNE website. Of importance to you is your membership listing. Please take a few moments to review the information displayed for your company and if changes or additions are needed please contact the SFNE office. The website is the portal to your industry colleagues, customers and vendors so we want to make sure your information is up-to-date and accurate.
You might also have noticed SFNE has a new logo. With the new website we realized we also need to update and modernize the logo, which maintains our identity as a regional association manufacturing in the USA.
As we move into the summer months the SFNE Golf Committee is gearing up for our annual tournament to be held at Red Tail Golf Club in Devens, MA on Friday, September 23, 2016. Don't miss this chance to golf at Red Tail and reconnect with your SFNE friends and colleagues. The tournament attracts a terrific cross section of the steel fabrication industry in New England and is our most populated and popular event.
For our motorcycle enthusiasts I would like to personally invite you to join us for our fifth annual ride. We will start the ride here at Rens Welding & Fabricating then move down the Rhode Island coast to Metals USA for lunch. This is always a great day and we hope to see you on July 29.
Have a great summer.
Regards,
Rens Hayes

SFNE held the Spring Dinner Meeting on April 28, 2016. The dinner was held at Wachusett Mountain in Princeton, MA.
This meeting featured John Coll, VP of Sales & Marketing from Gerdau North America. John presented a 2016 forecast for structural steel demand and provided insight into industry and price trends and structural steel availability.
The new venue gave attendees the chance to enjoy "The SkyRide", a 4-passenger chairlift to Wachusett Mountain's scenic 2,006-foot summit with spectacular 360-degree views of southern New England.

An Act Relative to Structural Steel
|
SFNE is working to have legislation passed in Massachusetts that would add structural steel to the Massachusetts General Law "filed sub-bid" system for selecting certain subcontractors on most public building construction projects.
The goal of the legislation is to create an opportunity for DCAMM certified companies to have a fair opportunity to bid on the structural steel packages for publicly funded building projects. The legislation is designed to give everyone who wants to bid on a public project a fair chance to do so.
To move the legislation forward, SFNE retained the services of Delaney & Associates.
Progress has been made. During the current legislative session S1721, an act relative to structural steel, received a favorable report from the State Administration and Regulatory Oversight Committee and has been sent to the Senate Ways and Means Committee for review and consideration.
