Join us on October 24th for the

MAPCS/APSCU Day on the Hill

Here is your opportunity to educate legislators about the contribution that private career schools make to the Commonwealth's economy and workforce.

The Day on the Hill will begin at 9:30 am for a legislative briefing at Pearson Learning.  After your legislative visits we will conclude the day with a luncheon sponsored by Pearson Learning.

Making contact with policy makers is the best way to spread the positive message that private sector colleges and universities and more importantly, their students and graduates, have to share. It is our goal to have a sizable contingent of administrators, students, faculty and employers on Beacon Hill in Boston to show the strength and diversity of our sector.

Please plan to bring your school employees and your graduates to the MAPCS/APSCU Day on the Hill.  This is a great opportunity to talk to legislators and their staff about how your graduates are fulfilling skilled job requirements for employers and helping improve the economy in their districts.

Legislative visits will be scheduled between 11 am and 1 pm.  You can schedule your own visit or MAPCS and APSCU will make the appointment for you.

Special thanks to Pearson for providing their sponsorship, the meeting room, breakfast and lunch.

With your participation, we're confident that the MAPCS/APSCU Day on the HIll will be productive.

There is no charge to attend the MAPCS | APSCU, but your sponsorship would be appreciated.  See registration form.

MAPCS Online Training

Assisting Students with Disabilities in the Online Environment

In 2010, U.S. News and World Report reported an increase of 832% in online enrollment in higher education from 2001-2009. Many of these online learners are learners with disabilities. While 88% of colleges nationwide report enrolling students with disabilities, these students make up approximately10-12% of the total student population according to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).

As with non-disabled learners, online learning can afford students with disabilities the convenience, flexibility and ability to participate in education in order to achieve their goals of independence and career aspirations. Whereas online courses are open to all learners, accessibility of course contents, resources and methods of communication are often inadequate or non-existent for those with disabilities.

Additionally, many online instructors assume their online learners are using a mouse as the main navigation tool, can see the computer screen, and can navigate online resources with the same visual cues other users can.

As online enrollments continue to increase in higher education, an increasing number of those learners will have disabilities.  To help these students succeed, instructors must understand the challenges they face as well as tools that can help them.

The MAPCS Online Training Center has recently launched EL111 - Assistive Technologies for the Online Learner for those who wish to learn more.
