Fourth Corner Quilts
Fourth Corner Quilts in Bellingham is taking their energy savings to the next level! Located in a building that is over 100 years old, they have recently made comprehensive upgrades, including new insulation, new windows, lots of structural improvements, swapping out their incandescent lights for LEDs, upgrading their fluorescent lighting, and installing a ductless heat pump! We are so impressed with their stewardship of their building and their natural resources!

Energy efficiency training for real estate agents

Over 1100 homes in our region have undergone a CEC home energy audit and have received an Energy Performance Score - and this number continues to grow. If you are a CEC homeowner that is thinking of putting your home up for sale in the foreseeable future, you will undoubtedly be searching for a real estate professional that is knowledgeable and adept at marketing energy efficient and green built homes so you can receive the maximum return on your investment. This is why Sustainable Connections is offering the Green Genius program to educate real estate agents as to how energy efficiency and green building trends have impacted the market.

Over 40 local real estate agents are enrolled in the first series of classes, and the impact of this training will only spread from here.

Thinking of buying or selling a home? Stay tuned at the CEC website for a list of local accredited Green Genius real estate agents.

Are you a real estate agent or do you have one in your life who could benefit from this training? Direct them to the Green Genius education series! The classes can be taken together or alone, so there is no wrong time to sign up and get involved in the next available class!
Walk for Water on May 23rd!

The City of Bellingham Public Works Department will host the 6th Annual Walk for Water from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2014.

This free, family-friendly event will begin at the Fairhaven Village Green where participants embark on a 2.3-mile loop walk along the South Bay Trail to Boulevard Park and back. A water tasting station and signs will be posted along the way with facts and action items regarding the World Water Day 2014 theme, Water and Energy.

World Water Day, established by the United Nations in 1992, is celebrated and observed around the globe. The City's Walk for Water symbolizes the distance women and children across the world frequently travel to collect water for household use. Participants are encouraged, but not required, to carry jugs of water, provided by event staff, as they walk.

The 2014 theme will highlight local and global cooperative efforts regarding water and energy consumption and conservation.
