We are excited to bring you:
Scott Jenkins, Vice President Operations, Seattle Mariners/Safeco Field
Scott Jenkins is in his seventh season with the Mariners where he operates and manages Safeco Field. With over 40,000 visitors per game, Scott has worked to reduce the waste generated by sending nearly 10 tons of compostable trash to the composter after every game. They have Increased their waste recycling by 70%, saved over 60% of their water usage and decreased lighting bills by 70%. With all these changes in waste and energy management over the past couple of years they have been able to save about $1.2MM dollars. These savings have become an important part of the Mariners image. "That's the exciting thing about sports, the conversation about conserving and taking care of the earth. If you can do it through these iconic venues and strong brands with teams, we have just about anybody from any cross section of the public coming into Safeco Field. It's a great opportunity to deliver that message and leverage the Mariners brand to hopefully encourage others to conserve."
A-P Hurd, Vice President, Touchstone Corporation; Author, The Carbon Efficient City
A-P has worked extensively on environmental policy at the local and state level. She has a particular interest in the structure of incentives: how local/regional/national frameworks quantify and allocate costs and how better frameworks can encourage investment and innovation. She speaks widely on sustainability issues and has recently published The Carbon Efficient City with University of Washington Press.
A-P comes from an operations management and finance background. In 2002-2004, she completed an Operations Management fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where her research focused on system dynamics and complex system architecture.

Bill Taylor, Owner, Taylor Shellfish Farms
Bill Taylor is a fourth generation shellfish grower who grew up in Olympia, WA. He is currently President of Taylor United Inc., the parent company for Taylor Shellfish. Taylor Shellfish is a vertically integrated shellfish farming company now training the fifth generation and is looking forward to continuing its tradition of shellfish farming. Bill will speak to being a locally owned company in a international business. Taylor Shellfish has to be nimble and quick thinking to thrive in an unstable economy with changing environmental impacts that are out of his control. What are his keys to success?
Also on hand Thursday night will be a local government panel with Mayor Kelly Linville, Whatcom County Executive, Jack Louws and Port of Bellingham Director, Rob Fix. Questions will focus around 1) the waterfront, 2) downtown Bellingham revitalization, 3) how local government can best partner with the private sector to promote green business practices.
