MANDY: A STORY OF

LIFE AND LIMB

Meet Mandy, a sweet Schnauzer with a lot of love to give. VHS discovered her - and her poorly-healed broken leg - during a rescue trip to the public shelter. Reluctant to leave the adorable stray to her inevitable fate, we brought Mandy back to VHS for loving care and treatment.

We were hoping to preserve Mandy's leg to give her the best possible outlook; when the vet recommended replacing the calcified bone with two titanium plates, we knew it was the way to go. Mandy's story was featured in The Valley Times to help enlist support for the treatment, and on Friday, March 9 she had a successful surgery.

Though she is recovering well in foster care, Mandy will still require our help for some time. Despite her ordeal, this affectionate creature has rewarded us with her love. Donate today to give Mandy - and others like her - the full, happy life she deserves.

SCOUT BUILDS FERAL FEEDING STATIONS

Most visitors to VHS don't see the back of the building, but that is exactly where our feral friends love to be! Now, thanks to Boy Scout Neal Bhandarkar, the VHS colony has two beautiful raised feeding stations to safely snack from, out of raccoon range and sheltered from the elements.

Neal spent a total of 151 hours working to complete the feeding stations for his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project, including planning, design, fundraising, construction, and installation. He is currently awaiting the final step in the Eagle Scout approval process. On behalf of the feral cats and everyone at VHS, thank you, Neal, and good luck!

Are you in need of a service project? Contact us today to find out how you can help.

FOSTER HOMES NEEDED FOR

SEASONAL INFLUX OF PUPPIES & KITTENS

Vaccuums

You know what happens when it isn't raining cats and dogs? All this lovely weather means we'll soon be loaded with litters of kittens and puppies...which means we'll need plenty of foster homes to care for them until adoption. Can you help? VHS will provide everything you need! Contact Melissa Bonnel to get started, and spread the word to your friends and neighbors - the more foster caregivers we have, the more lives we can save!
