Let's get past all the fuss over Valentine's Day, shall we, and instead get versed on B&B getaways that bring the romance in less cliché ways. You might be surprised at the many ways love blooms at B&Bs.

Classes with Your Significant Other Classes
Couples who cook together stay together. Or so proclaims the innkeeper at Wellspring B&B in West Bend who is offering a Feb 13th Sustainable Chocolate Cooking Class with both savory & sweet recipes, accompanied by wine.  Nearby West Bend B&Bs are Isadora's B&B and Hidden Serenity B&B.

Cross country ski by candlelight when you stay at Westphal Mansion Inn in Hartford and enjoy over 300 luminaries lighting the Pike Lake Trail Feb. 8th. If you and your sweetie share a love of Victorian or Prairie Style or Queen Ann or Arts and Crafts or Italianate architecture, there is a B&B in Wisconsin for you. Fine examples include: Inn at Pine Terrace in Oconomowoc is modeled after a French nobleman's Vienna Castle.   Prairie Style The Lawson House in Hales Corners near Milwaukee is a 1914 Prairie style bungalow, while Heaven Scent in Randolph is former church in the Arts & Crafts style.  On the National Historic Register, Four Gables B&B in La Crosse was built by the family strawberry fortune in the Victorian / Queen Ann style, while River's Bend Inn's (Mayville) original Victorian design was replaced inside & out by English Country.  Amble through Manitowoc's Westport B&B, an 1879 Italianate Style mansion built of Cream City Brick.

performance is that of a romantic opera, musical or drama. Inns with nearby theaters (some are an easy walk) include: Franklin Street Inn and The Roost, nearby to the Appleton Performing Arts Center. Madison's Overture Center is a few blocks from the downtown Hotel Ruby Marie.  The elegant historic Mable Tainter Theatre is enjoyed by guests of Country Comfort B&B in Menomonie, while guests of The Lamppost Inn are entertained at Fort Atkinson's well-known Fireside Theatre.  Guests can have it all at the Fanny Hill Victorian Inn & Dinner Theatre in Eau Claire!

Our One Concession to Valentine's Day: A Decadent Chocolate Recipe Our

"Panna cotta is a guest favorite. This variation was inspired by a
childhood delight-chocolate cherry cordials. This recipe can also be
altered to accommodate dietary restrictions."-Innkeeper

Cherry Cordial Panna Cotta

1 cup tart cherries, pitted and in juice (save juice) 
4 Tbsp Heering Cherry Liqueur
2 cups heavy cream
¹/³ cup honey
¹/8 tsp salt
½ cup cherry juice, plus 3 Tbsp
½ tsp vanilla
1 pkg. gelatin
4-6 oz. bitter-sweet chocolate

In a small bowl, place cherries in liqueur. Marinate in refrigerator for 1 hour. In a saucepan, combine cream, honey and salt. Drain and save liquid from cherries. Add additional cherry juice to make ½ cup of liquid. Stir into cream mixture. Heat over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally until steam appears. Do not boil. Add in vanilla. In a small ramekin, empty packet of gelatin. Stir in 3 tablespoons of cherry juice. Whisk gelatin into hot cream until dissolved. Pour into serving dishes and chill.

Chop chocolate in bits. Place in microwavable measuring cup. Heat at 30-second intervals until melted, stirring in between. Once thoroughly melted, pour into piping bag. On wax paper-covered tray, pipe out designs. Chill until hardened, about 20 minutes. Place chocolate decoration on top of panna cotta and serve. Yield: 6-8 servings.
