Don't Sweat Serving Sizes: Stuff Your Schedule with Bread for the City's "Holiday Helpings"
November 1st through December 25; Multiple Shifts & Locations At Bread for the City's annual holiday fundraiser, "Holiday Helpings," staff and volunteers will pack more than 9,000 special grocery bags, including turkeys and all the trimmings, for distribution at their Northwest and Southeast Centers. To make this annual campaign a success, Bread for the City needs small groups of 5-15 volunteers to cover multiple morning and afternoon shifts. Bread for the City's mission is to provide vulnerable District residents with comprehensive services, including food, clothing, medical care, and legal and social services, in an atmosphere of dignity and respect. Giving Back is as Easy as Pie: Put Dessert First with Food & Friends' "Slice of Life"
November 17th through Thanksgiving, November 22nd; Multiple Shifts Now, in its 6th year, "Slice of Life" has become a tradition in the Washington region. During this holiday season, pie teams and sellers, hundreds of volunteers, our distribution partners and the community, all come together to ensure that our neighbors facing life-challenging illnesses, enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving meal. Food & Friends has several volunteer opportunities for "Slice of Life," including distributing, unloading, sorting and delivering pies. Having energetic and dedicated volunteers is not only critical to our success, but a wonderful way to support those in the community most in need. Food & Friends also has traditional volunteer opportunities over Thanksgiving week, including Turkey Box Deliveries, Food Preparation, Holiday Meal Delivery, and Food & Friends very special "Pilgrims," the little Turkey Day fairies who make all the logistics and details come together.
Food & Friends' mission is to foster a community caring for men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-challenging illnesses by preparing and delivering specialized meals and groceries in conjunction with nutrition counseling. Rock more than Plymouth: Help the DCJCC's Morris Cafritz Center for Community Service Prepare "Everything but the Turkey" 
November 19th & 21st; 6:30 p.m to 8:30 p.m. On Monday and Wednesday, November 19th and 21st, the DC Jewish Community Center's Morris Cafritz Center for Community Service will organize 500 volunteers to prepare 15,000 servings of food for people in need in the metropolitan area. In order to keep with the Jewish dietary laws, they will prepare "Everything BUT the Turkey," providing hearty Thanksgiving Day meals to 100 local social service agencies in partnership with DC Central Kitchen. The Morris Cafritz Center for Community Service (MCCCS) organizes high-impact community service and volunteer projects and events that address unmet needs in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. For the past 20+ years the MCCCS has enabled tens of thousands of individuals to make a difference by volunteering in our community. Our volunteers take responsibility to enrich the lives of others as well as their own.

Be a Sweet Potato & Join the Transitional Housing Corporation's Thanksgiving Dinner Donation Drive 
Ongoing through November 20, 2012
Did you know that the cost of a Thanksgiving dinner increased by 13 percent? Join the Transitional Housing Corporation (THC) to make sure local families get what they need to celebrate this November! THC seeks energetic, passionate volunteers to organize community donation drives for Thanksgiving meals to benefit THC clients. Each dinner must include: turkey, green beans, potatoes, bread, and stuffing - other goodies are welcome and encouraged! Individuals and groups are welcome. THC is a nonprofit organization that provides housing and supportive services, including case management, employment and career development, life and parenting skills, and youth enrichment services to more than 500 homeless and at-risk families in DC so that they can make transformational changes in their lives.
