| Greetings! |
Were you ever the first one to know about a great movie, or a fantastic new restaurant? Is there a special word for knowing something is awesome before everyone else figures it out?
If there were a word in adoption right now, it would be Poland. I'm not ready to release all the videos, personal adoption stories, and information on this program yet. I'm working to put it together. But at the same time, I'm bursting. Poland has a rock solid program. In just over a year, a family can bring home their child (many young toddlers), and the care received is excellent. I've linked to a video of one family's adoption that shows the entire process. Enjoy! --Martha Visit the Waiting Child Area Now

Featured Special Need: Premature Birth
|
Did you know? Premature birth or preterm birth is the birth of a baby born before the normal gestational period of 40 weeks. In most cultures, prematurity is considered to occur when the birth occurs before 37 weeks. In poorer countries, birth weight is tracked due to poor obstetric care, and all low birth weight babies are considered premature, although the Word Health Organization estimates that only 1/3 of low birth weight babies are actually premature. Premature infants have an increased mortality rate in the first year of life. They have an increased risk to develop medical and developmental problems.

| Featured Country: Haiti |
|
Overview:
There is likely no other country in the Western Hemisphere where the need for assistance to orphans and vulnerable children is more obvious. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. There are no 'government' orphanages in Haiti. The children who are cared for in orphanages are done so by humanitarian or religious groups. Single women and couples may adopt from Haiti.
Children Available: Children are age 2 years and older at placement. There are many sibling groups available.
