A Dream Hike to Lost Lake
| |
My Favorite Family Hike!: 3 miles of the most beautiful vistas and views of mountains and lakes - 3 lakes, Lost Lake Slough, Lost Lake, and Dollar Lake. Unbelievable beauty.
Where the road splits off to Irwin, take a left on Kebler. Keep going, and enjoy the view! when the aspens are all around you in a close woods for awhile, Lost Lake Campground will come up on the left, after Horseranch turnoff.Turn in and keep to the right and park as far as you can. It takes 35 minutes from CB to drive there.
Check out some other dream hikes on my "Great hikes" webpage!

Float for a Sunset Boat Ride to Dinner! Float it to Garlic Mike's!
| |
3 Rivers in Almont organizes a wonderful dinner activity: "Garlic Mike's Float 'N Dine" trip. Guests raft from Almont to Garlic Mike's and then have a wonderful meal there. The price is $68 for adults and $40 for kids 10 and under. 970-641-1303970-641-1303.
It's a sunset ride that takes about 1 1/2 hours. If you want to sip wine, byo. You drive to Garlic Mike's, which is just outside of Gunnison, and 3 Rivers picks you up and brings you back to Almont. Then you float, and after dinner, just drive home!
My personal best choice for a family outing.

Rocky Mountain Biology Laboratories in Gothic - Worth More than a Quick Visit!
| |
The Rocky Mountain Biology Lab!
Just beyond Crested Butte - (just keep driving on hwy 35) lies Gothic. it was a successful mining town at one point, but now it is basically a scientific town - run by the Rocky Mountain Biology Lab. There is a wonderful "town hall" with some museum displays, BUT THEY ALSO have an incredible teaching program for KIDS AND ADULTS!
Here is a link to their wonderful kids program: And here is a link to their adult classes - usually last about 3 hours... Give them a try! find out why they get a world of information from a tiny section of wildflowers! rmbl.org |
