Mark Dunning (R) presents AWRA's prestigious Mary H. Marsh Medal to Ronald W. Sullivan during AWRA's 2014 Annual Conference and 50th Anniversary Celebration.
AWRA is pleased to announce that the Integrated Water Resources Strategy of the Oregon Water Resources Department is the 2015 winner of the Association's prestigious Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Award. AWRA is also excited to announce its first ever IWRM Special Recognition Award winner, ONE DROP's Project Burkina Faso.

Both awards will be presented during the Annual Awards Luncheon at the Association's Annual Water Resources Conference, November 18, 2015, Grand Hyatt Denver, in Denver, CO.
The May issue of Water Resources IMPACT magazine features not only the 2014 AWRA IWRM Award winner - One Water, One Watershed Program from the Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority - but also highlights eight other projects nominated for the award "in a contest that was almost too close to call," according to selection committee members. The issue is has been opened for public download for a limited time.
The ICESat-2 Applications Team will host an  ICESat-2 Inland Water Focus Session at AWRA Conference in Denver, Wednesday, November 18
NASA's Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) mission will orbit the planet to measure elevation changes in our Earth's surface. With a target launch in 2017, ICESat-2 will continue important observations of ice sheet elevation change, the above-water height of sea ice, and vegetation canopy height begun by the first ICESat mission, which operated from 2003 to 2009. It will also take height measurements over inland water bodies, including lakes and reservoirs. ICESat-2 will advance our knowledge on key observations for ecosystem, climate, and water applications.

The focus session will provide an overview of the ICESat-2 mission and discuss how the measurements of inland water surfaces will be developed into data products the public can use. We invite the water resources community to join us in exploring how the data products will work, and discuss how water managers, conservation groups and others could use these data products to make key decisions. In this focus session, we hope to provide the water resources community with an opportunity to talk to ICESat-2 mission scientists, so that both identify opportunities for using and leveraging the use of the planned data products.

For additional information and focus session agenda, please contact Sabrina Delgado Arias, ICESat-2 Applications Coordinator and POC, at  sabrina.delgadoarias@nasa.gov.

JAWRA Seeks Associate Editor, Water Policy and
Planning
The Journal of the American Water Resources Association (JAWRA) is seeking a new associate editor (AE) in water policy and planning. The successful candidate for this position ideally will have expertise in analyzing public policy frameworks related to water management and assessing the effectiveness of water resources planning. JAWRA water policy and planning papers commonly deal with, but are not limited to, public participation, conflict resolution, and water rights.

AEs serve as primary advisers to the editor-in-chief and their responsibilities fall into two primary areas: 1) supervising reviews of manuscripts and 2) recruitment of journal articles. The new AE can expect to handle 8 to 15 manuscripts per year. All manuscripts are processed online using the ScholarOne Manuscripts™ system, with the AE selecting reviewers and, when reviews return, making a recommendation to the editor-in-chief. AEs are encouraged to seek out qualified authors in their subject areas and encourage them to submit journal articles to JAWRA. These could be individual submittals or featured collections of topically related articles.

Associate editors are volunteers who earn our heartfelt thanks and are invited to our annual AE luncheon. Serving as an AE also offers the opportunity for an individual to make a difference in advancing the publication of cutting-edge multidisciplinary water resources research. The term of an AE is three years, which may be extended by mutual agreement. Interested individuals should e-mail a statement-of-interest and a CV to Dr. Parker (Jim) Wigington, JAWRA editor-in-chief, at JAWRA-editor@awra.org. The position will remain open for applications until at least November 20, 2015.
