An IWRM approach to water resources has been a hallmark of AWRA since our establishment in 1964. In 2014, 12 projects were nominated for the award. The May issue of our Water Resources IMPACT magazine features not only the 2014 AWRA IWRM Award winner - One Water, One Watershed Program from the Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority - but also highlights eight of the other projects nominated for the award "in a contest that was almost too close to call," according to selection committee members. The issue is has been opened for public download for a limited time.

Underground Injection Control Program: Legal, Hydrogeologic and Environmental Aspects

MAY 19, 2015 | 1pm ET

Speaker: Mike Wireman, U.S. EPA, Retired
With the recent increase in oil and gas production and uranium mining there has been a significant increase in the number of permitted underground injection control wells, including permits which grant an exemption and allow injection into USDWs. There is an increasing concern regarding the potential for future legacy problems associated with the use of deep aquifers for disposal of waste fluids and the ability to contain the injected fluids in a known portion of receiving formation. Q&A to follow. PDH credit available.

Much has been made of Canadian actor William Shatner's scheme to pipe freshwater from Seattle down to California for $30B. I am no pipeline expert, but I doubt that $30B would get the pipeline paralleling Interstate 5  to the Oregon border (c.165 miles from downtown Seattle), much less to California's Lake Shasta, perhaps another 450 miles. ...»
