Award Winning Teen to Present Research at AWRA Annual Water Resources Conference in November
High school junior May Wang was recently awarded EPA's President's Environmental Youth Award and will be presenting her research at 8:30am on November 6, 2014, during AWRA's Annual Water Resources conference in Tyson's Corner, VA.
Wang's study tested the reuse of activated charcoal as a means of removing Bisphenol A (BPA) from water supplies. She conducted experiments using an activated charcoal solution and varying concentrations of BPA solutions in consecutive rounds of filter use and continuous use.

The 4-week summer camp concluded with participants working together to design and construct two rain gardens. Restoration Spotlight: Wastewater overhaul will cut pollution in West Virginia After eleven years, $40 million and more than 16,000 linear feet of pipe, West Virginia is set to bring a new wastewater treatment plant online and make huge cuts to the pollution it sends into the Chesapeake Bay. The Moorefield Wastewater Treatment Plant will replace four existing plants with one new system, marking a significant milestone in the headwater state's efforts to curb pollution and improve water quality. Expected to go into operation this fall, the plant will remove 90,000 pounds of nitrogen and 93,000 pounds of phosphorous from West Virginia wastewater each year.
