We are so excited by Samaritans' new "Happier Boston" campaign. We loved welcoming commuters at North Station last month, and the commuters loved it, too! If you will be coming into the city on Friday morning, look for our volunteer Welcome Party at South Station from 8-9am, or come get your daily dose of happiness and an orange from our Orange You Happy volunteers at Back Bay Station on Tuesday, December 11th from 8:30-9am! We would love to see you and share your smile!
At Samaritans, we believe that happiness, at its core, is based in the profound human connection that happens when we are heard, understood and valued. Everyone deserves happiness, and everyone needs to be heard. In 2012, Samaritans volunteers heard the voices of thousands of callers. In the coming year, we have set our sights even higher. We want to raise awareness throughout greater Boston that talking with one another and connecting with one another makes our communities stronger, healthier and happier.
We look forward to sharing with you the happiness that will be delivered by Samaritans in the weeks, months and years to come!
Thank you!
Roberta Hurtig

The Annual Memorial Event: we remember them
As you finalize your plans to celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of another, please mark Sunday, January 6th on your calendar to participate in Samaritans Annual Memorial Event.
Each year, we meet from 6-8pm at a church in Arlington Center to remember those lost to suicide - whether through song, a poem, a writing that captures our thoughts and feelings or through silent observance - we will remember them. We also host a social hour following the program to reconnect and build upon the community of support we have created at Samaritans.
For more information, or to RSVP, visit the Annual Memorial webpage, or contact Debbie DiMasi, Director of Grief Support Services. |

Introducing our 2013 Marathon Runners!
Our selection committee met in November to review many applications from impressive community members who wanted to make the incredible physical, emotional and fundraising commitment of being a member of our 2013 Marathon Team. We are delighted to introduce our community to our team of 16 runners to our community. Please visit our 2013 Marathon Team fundraising webpage to learn about their incredible stories and view their individual fundraising webpages, where many of them have already been raising much needed support for Samaritans' programs. We look forward to featuring each of our marathon runners in our upcoming "Marathon Monday Countdown" Facebook posts. Follow us on facebook to learn more about our fabulous team

Volunteer Opportunity: We'd like to keep you up at night!
Are you a night owl who wants to make a difference? Samaritans is looking for overnight volunteers to staff our helplines in both our Boston and Framingham locations. There are few places for people to turn for help in the middle of the night, and Samaritans is one of those places. The only way we are able to be there for people reaching out for help is through the generous volunteers who staff our helplines. If you would like more information about volunteering on our helplines, and especially if you have an interest in helping out overnights, we'd like to hear from you. You can learn more about volunteering, and fill out a volunteer interest form for the location that works best for you on our Volunteer webpage. If your workplace or school has a volunteer board, please consider printing out and posting this flyer. |

Share your happiness
Each day - because of you - Samaritans is able to provide a moment of light and hope to people who are struggling, isolated or feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes the warmth of a voice and the ear of someone who cares is all any of us needs to make it through a difficult moment. Whether it is a workshop that informs people about suicide risk factors and warning signs, a new instant chat program that encourages young people to seek emotional support or a meeting where people who have experienced loss comfort one another, Samaritans services make our community a healthier and happier place to live.
Help us continue to make Greater Boston and MetroWest a caring, more vibrant community. Share your happiness this holiday season by providing Samaritans with a donation that will support Samaritans life sustaining services and ensure that we are there for those who are struggling. Our goal is to raise more than $100,000 by the end of December through our "Share Your Happiness" Campaign. Every little bit helps - no gift is too big or too small. Thank you for supporting our efforts!
