Youthline: Teens Helping Teens
877-YOUTH-911
YouthLine is a free and confidential 24-hour teen-to-teen crisis, counseling and referral line for youth. It began in 1999 in response to the alarming statistics on youth alcohol and drug use and related teen issues and has since expanded to answer call about any issue affecting teens. Teen volunteers are available to help seven days a week from 4-10 PM, and the phone line is open 24/7 with adults answering when teens are not there. They can be reached by calling 1-877-YOUTH-911 (1-877-968-8491), by texting teen2teen to 839863 or through their online chat at oregonyouthline.org. Volunteers in the program have taken calls from all over the world as part of this program and helped with a huge variety of issues.
The Oregon Military Teen Panel met with many of the volunteers during their last planning retreat to share information about being military connected to help the volunteers understand what issues military teens may call in about. Many of the issues were the same like dating, relationship issues, parents, and school issues, but they also helped them to understand more about deployments, what it is like when the parent comes home, or misses important events, and having a parent who has come back different. It was an amazing opportunity to meet some other youth who are making a difference in the world.
They are always looking for volunteers, so if you are in the Portland Metro area and are interested, visit their website for more information!

Time To Bust Out the Studying!
It is almost the end of another school year and we want to help you finish strong! Tutor.com for US Military Families, funded by the US DoD and Coast Guard Mutual Assistance, is a program that allows eligible college and K-12 students in military connected families to connect to a live tutor online at any time for one-to-one help with homework, studying, test prep, proofreading and more. The service is free - regardless of whether the service member is serving full-time or part-time - plus it is also open to dependent children of Wounded Warriors/Survivors!
So what do youth using the service say about it?
the tutors on this website are so great! they really explain it to you so that you understand it. and they don't do the work for you. they just guide you. It's improved my math grades soo much since I started using this and I am so much more confident in my work!

My tutor was super patient and amazing. Eric helped me with not only science, but the quadratic formula, and was STILL patient even though I gave him 719287321978 (exaggerated) different wrong answers. Eric didn't do the problem for me, he helped me come up with formulas and plug in the numbers. And for being almost 3 AM, I got a lot done and I understand the problems much better. Thank you!
