January 2015

Creating a Promising Future for the Individuals and Families We Serve.
Lunchbox Save the Date: February 9-13, 2015
The 5th Annual "Share the Love" Lunchbox Fundraiser will be held the week of Valentine's Day. The enthusiasm and support of last year's Lunchbox generated nearly $48,000 for Horizons Meals On Wheels Program!

Larry the Lunchbox invites you to order a gourmet lunch from Horizons for only $10, and $5 of it will provide a meal for a homebound senior. Lunches will be delivered to your home or place of business by one of our friendly staff members or volunteers.

Horizons is very grateful for this year's Title Sponsor, Bankers Trust. Because of their generosity, we will be able to offset costs of the event and serve even more of our clients in need. Ordering for Lunchbox will open in mid-January at www.horizonsfamily.org.

Ashley Koering
Receptionist

Ashley has been working at Horizons for close to three years. Working at the front desk, she gets to see and know the faces of those we serve every day. Ashley is there to point clients in the right direction and make sure they receive whatever they need, whether it's a home-delivered meal, an appointment with a therapist, or getting set up with debt management.

She says, "I never fail to be amazed by the depth of our clients' personal history and kindness, or the creativity and wisdom of my coworkers." Ashley's bright smile and positive attitude help create a welcoming environment for everyone who comes in through Horizons' doors.

Thank you, Ashley, for being an excellent example of Horizons' good people doing good things in good ways!

Karl's Corner

"A New Year means new opportunities and a fresh start. All of us have the opportunity to make a commitment to improving our community, through our work, personal interactions, and volunteer activities.

At Horizons, there are plenty of opportunities to make a difference. Whatever your skills set, we have a place for you in the Horizons Family. I encourage each of you to think about making a commitment to give back this year, volunteering your time, talent or treasure.

I would also like to take this opportunity to invite you to Horizons' second ever Lunch & Learn, which will be held on January 14 at our headquarters. This is a great chance to talk to our staff about volunteer opportunities, our Healthy Horizons Initiative, and where we are headed this year.

Blessings and good wishes as we head confidently into 2015."

-Karl Cassell, President/CEO
Hooray!
Horizons and First United Methodist Church in Marion are pleased to announce that the Return of the Turkey Trot Race raised $30,000 for Horizons this year! This is a record-breaking number, and we are very pleased with the number of runners and walkers who braved the cold that day. Thank you to all our participants and volunteers!

We would also like to extend a big thank you to our longstanding Title Sponsor, Benchmark!
