PPACA Marketplace Update:
Administration extends non-PPACA plans for another two years

After days of speculation, the Obama Administration announced a two-year extension for individual health insurance policies that do not meet the standards of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).  The delay generated extensive media coverage, with reports saying it is the latest indicator of problems in PPACA implementation as well as a possible effort to avoid hurting Democrats during this year's midterm elections.

It is very important to note, again, that even though the President has made this announcement we still have to go through the proper State Legislative channels before we see any impact to the individual market.  Simply announcing a change like this does not automatically make it happen.  Each individual state will need to decide if the insurance carriers can keep non-PPACA plans on the marketplace after they renew this year.  We will keep you posted on this topic once we receive guidance from the states
