To the NOVA Open's Great Sponsors, Staff & Attendees:
THANK YOU!
The 2013 NOVA Open was our best, brightest, and biggest, yet. People attended from far and wide to participate in our gaming tournaments, side events, and seminars ~ to socialize and to shop. We added many new and innovative components to the NOVA Open, resulting in success, a million laughs and fun stories, as well as tough lessons and new growing pains. We saw truly fine art submitted to Capital Palette, watched new names take the top spots in our oldest events, and sat back to enjoy the smiling faces of our attendees throughout the halls.
Five years ago, when some friends and I were throwing a little outdoor BBQ for charity around some 40k gaming, we never expected to be where we are today. Now, we expect nothing less than "next year's NOVA Open" being the best convention it can be! While our own thoughts and actions turn inevitably toward 2014, we will use the feedback of staff, sponsors and attendees to implement new ideas, improve solid features we currently have, and to plan long-term goals for all future NOVA Opens. We hope everyone will enjoy thinking back on the memories of NOVA past while enjoying a beautiful fall with family, friends, and a little bit of wargaming.
Thanks to all of you for making the NOVA something worth putting on every year. Stay safe, enjoy life, never forget the value of play, and we hope to see you next year.

CHARITY ARMIES RAISE $10k+!
More than $10,000 was raised in the NOVA Open Charitable Foundation Army Raffles. The winners, selected through an online randomizer, were announced at the closing awards ceremony of the 2013 NOVA Open Convention on Sunday, September 1, 2013. The event was

Patrick Weber of Central Point, Oregon!

I heard about the NOVA Open Charity Foundation through a long time friend who lives in the DC area and from Naftka, known for his blog Faeit212. Naftka did an article highlighting the NOVA Open Foundation, and the non-profits proceeds would benefit, along with pictures of the different raffles. I chose Doctors Without Borders because of my dad's involvement with that organization in Mexico. He would administer the anesthesia for cleft palate surgeries for young children, as well as provide other basic medical treatment. I also donated to the Necron raffle because I'm a Civil Affairs Sergeant in the US Army Reserves and always try to find ways to help my fellow service members and their families. I've heard of so many great things the Fisher House Foundation does for service members and their families. I also found out about Warhammer 40k during my deployment to Afghanistan from the Royal Marines and even got to play a few games during our downtime. Those models weren't painted, of course, and I'm so excited to have such an incredibly well painted Dark Angels army to play with! I've always been drawn to the Dark Angels and look forward to hunting the Fallen. Those of you in the Oregon and California area better be prepared for the wrath of the Unforgiven! I'm definitely in disbelief that I won this amazing army but I'm even more excited that we as a community were able to raise so much for such great causes. I'm really excited to see what we can raise next year!
The Dark Angel Fortress of Redemption (pictured above), created and donated by Michael Frazier, was won by Frank Edwards of Westville, Indiana. The beautiful terrain just barely fit into the bed of Frank's pickup truck. He plans to give share it with his local game store and can't wait to see how it plays out!
1000 Point Necrons: The House of the Silent King
RAISED $2,726 in support of Fisher House Foundation.

Eric Fontaine of Dixon Missouri!

To the Board of Directors: Firstly Thank you for this awesome once in a life chance to win such an amazing Army. I learned about the raffle while I was surfing around Bartertown.com, and saw some conversation about an the Lightish Red Army being auctioned away as a fund raiser, and decided I could spare a few bucks for that cause. But once I got on the Nova Foundation website, I quickly realized I would be digging deep in my wallet and donating to all three great organizations.
The House of the Silent King received a good dose of my spending cash for a few reasons: 1) It's Fisher House, and being military and having the proud honor to serve as a Casualty Assistance Officer to a family that lost there child, I learned first-hand while escorting the family half way across the Country, how great Fisher House is and what amazing support they provide the families of our nation's Fallen Heroes during the most difficult times a family or parent could imagine - the loss of their loved one overseas; 2) The army is painted by Stiff Neck Studios - I mean they are amazing, and their quality work shows everyday . . . Who could resist? Not me, that's for sure; and 3) It was painted by an Army Officer!
So, what do I plan to do with the Army when it gets here? Are you kidding me?! My sleeping bag is already in my truck, and I am going to camp out on the floor of my Local Game Store and get this Army some table top time until the owner drags me out kicking and screaming!
You guys are awesome, and I can't wait for next year! Now that I am aware of the Nova Open and Foundation, not only will I be bragging about it to my friends, but I'll be planning to make a trip to the NOVA in 2014. You guys rock! Keep up the great work, and thanks.

Jake Schneider of Hobart Tasmania, Australia!

"I heard about the raffle via Dave Taylor's blog, I'm a regular follower of his and his work (and what he likes to link to) never ceases to amaze me. "I participated because all they're all good charities, I have participated in the previous ones that Dave Taylor was involved with - even going so far as to help out with The Black Crusade in 2012 (sadly, the contribution the local group and I made was returned in a crushed box). My wife and I bought tickets for all three raffles, since all three are good charities, and on the small chance we won any of them, we would not have been the least bit disappointed (for the record, she was in for the Necrons, not the pink Khador!). When the force arrives, the first thing I'm going to do is carefully paw at the models and oooh-and-ahhhh over them appropriate, then figure out which shelf in my display cabinet they'll work best on. Shortly after that I'll have pictures up on Facebook and be scheduling a game with the local Warmahordes guys."
From the NOVA Open Charitable Foundation
Board of Directors:
Thanks to all of our raffle contestants (those we affectionately refer to as "A Compassionate Force"), to our hard-working and generous artists, to our amazing sponsors, Mike Brandt and the NOVA Open, and to all supporters who backed these three amazing raffles to benefit charity.
