Welcome to the Genesee Valley ENA Newsletter!

Hi Everyone! We will be sending out a quarterly newsletter of events that the chapter has been doing and a list of educational opportunities. We encourage everyone that is involved in Emergency Nursing to become a member of ENA and become active in their chapter, if you are not already.

If you have any suggestions for the newsletter or any events you would like posted, please contact us.

Tammy A. Ophardt, GVENA President

What can becoming an active member of GVENA do for me?

I am sure some of you are wondering, what can the local chapter do for me? There are many opportunities at the local level, state level, and national level. The ENA continues to grow to be a united force for emergency nurses involved in patient care across the United States and Internationally.

Locally and up to the National level, the ENA can provide education & networking as well as an opportunity to advocate and lobby as a voice of the ENA.

By meeting with fellow emergency nurses, you can be an integral part of advocating for patient safety and excellence in emergency nursing practices. You can learn what other agencies are doing in your area. You can come and share ideas with others.

We encourage you to come to the local chapter meetings to show your support for emergency nursing and be a contributing part to changes in emergency based patient care. Bring your talents to help us make a difference in the ENA.

-Tammy A. Ophardt, GVENA President

What keeps you from being an active member of GVENA?

The active members of GVENA would like to know, what can we do for you as an ENA member to have you become active at the local chapter level? We would enjoy having many of the members of the local chapter join us on a regular basis for meetings.

Please use this link for a 4 question survey that would help us understand your needs.

Alina Vorobechik Educational Scholarship Fund

Alina was an Administrative Clinical Leader at Rochester General Hospital. She was always eager to share educational opportunities with the nurses at the hospital and would encourage nurses to continue their education as much as they could.

After Alina's unexpected death in 2012, GVENA started an Educational Scholarship in her name. Every year the funds have been used for a member of GVENA to have a paid registration to the NYS ENA Setting the Pace Conference or offer an ENA membership renewal for one year.

This year's winner was Colleen Gillette. Congratulations Colleen! She chose to attend the Setting the Pace conference in April in Saratoga Springs.

ENA 9/11 Endowment Fund

NYS ENA created the 9/11 Endowment Fund to provide scholarship money to public safety members of fire, police, EMS, and dispatch backgrounds in order to become a registered nurse.

For more information on the 9/11 Endowment Fund as well as other funds and scholarships available, please visit the NYS ENA webpage at www.nysena.org or the national ENA page at www.ena.org .
