The Giving Garden is Growing!
We had a perfect morning with an excellent turnout of gardeners. Thank you to all who came out and planted our giving garden. You will find tomatoes, broccoli, brussel sprouts, swiss chard, yellow squash, zucchini, green beans, wax beans, cucumbers, peppers, onions, lettuce, gourds, a pumpkin plant and sunflowers in our garden. Check out the pictures on our FPC Facebook page. Please take a look at the sign-up board out in the rotunda for weekly weeding and watering throughout the summer. The more the merrier and it is a great opportunity to meet fellow Presbyterian gardeners. If you have questions or concerns please contact Mary Kinsey, call 630-668-5147 x20, or sign up online.

First Pres Security Initiative
During the past year, First Pres formed a security team which has met to discuss and research the security needs and safety standards of the church at the request of Session and the Preschool. Having a more intentional strategy for a secure and safe church facility is significant in the following ways:
- Additional security measures will better enable the protection of our preschool children.
- Additional security safeguards and limiting building access will help provide a greater safety net for our staff, particularly in the administrative office. It will provide greater opportunity to know who is entering and leaving the building at all times of the day.
- It will facilitate and increase security for all of our members and guests.
Session has fully endorsed the recommended a security initiative that will allow us to install security equipment to help us appropriately limit access to the facility and provide a greater safety net for children, staff, members and guests. The approximate cost will be $25,000. Some of the interior cabling and wiring will be done by our own staff.
Please consider partnering with us by making a donation to help advance the First Pres Church Security Initiative. Contributions can be made online at Designated Giving (using the Giving Type drop-down, select Security Initiative), checks can be made out to First Presbyterian with Security in the memo line.

Women's Ministry
First Pres Women's Ministry has wrapped up another year of Christian service and fellowship. Thank you for your participation and thank you to the leadership team members for their calling and sharing their gifts! Our treasurer, Tanya Downing, reported that PW circles raised and donated over $3,500.
We contributed a majority of the money to our annual pledge to the Presbytery Women Chapter of Chicago and missions supported by the Chicago Presbytery such as Least Coin, Thank offering, Blankets and Birthday fund. We supported Erie House with our pecan sale proceeds. The remaining money was distributed to local missions that we feel passionate about: PADS, PRC, Rush University Medical Center Women's Board, Roseland Daycare Center, DuPage Convalescent Center, Kemmerer Village, Outreach Community Center and Christmas Sharing.
Looking forward to 2016/17 we have one leadership role remaining, to co-lead programs. This is a fun shared position, if you like bringing innovative speakers, authors or events to our church! Please call Angela Stephenson, at 630-200-2533, if your heart is calling you to this important shared role in women's ministry at our church.

VBS Surf Shack
The children had an awesome week at the Surf Shack VBS where they caught the wave of God's amazing love. 70 children gathered (double the 35 we had last year) for a week of Bible stories, games, crafts, science and music. We couldn't have done it without the 39 adult and teen volunteers that worked hard to make it such a success!

VBS Service Squad
Our Middle School VBS-Service Squad of 24 youth and 10 adults spent the week sharing God's love with others. We packed 40 lunches for PADS, sorted crayons, pens & pencils and took apart 3 ring binders to be recycled at SCARCE, we sorted frozen meat and packed 100 bags for the lunch program at the Humanitarian Service Project, we removed brush and invasive plants from an area being restored at Willowbrook Wildlife Haven and our highlight.....taking a loaf of homemade cinnamon bread and an a painted flowerpot wind chime to some special FPC seniors. A huge THANK YOU to our adult chaperone/drivers. We could not have done this mission work without you!
