Dear HSA Members,
Our Nominating Committee, chaired by Jeannie Martin, still has three important blanks to fill on the ballot: Regional Coordinator for Oregon, Regional Coordinator for the Plains and Mountains (Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming), and HSA Secretary. Jeannie's committee has an October 15th deadline to create the ballot, so now is the time for you to offer your service, if you would like to help out the HSA in any of these three capacities. We absolutely need a secretary-an organized person who can keep on top of email messages and maintain an up-to-date membership list. He or she is also the person who announces election results. The HSA secretary is part of the Executive Committee, which meets once a month via conference call. If you would like to be on the ballot for this vital position, please contact Jeannie at jeanniejeanne@gmail.com.
As I mentioned in an early bulletin, this year we'll be conducting our election online, saving trees and around $400, using a professional election service called Election Buddy. Every member with an email address will be sent a secure link to the ballot on November 5th and will have two weeks to vote, the deadline being November 19th, 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. All members without email will receive paper ballots before November 5th and be asked to mail them back to the HSA secretary, postmarked by November 19th. With most of our members using the online ballot, I'm confident that our level of participation, which was only 17% last year, will be much higher.
On another topic, by now you should have received-or will receive very soon-your copy of the 2013 members' anthology. I would like to congratulate its editor, Carolyn Coit Dancy, for her fine work on this beautiful little book. And I thank Mike Montreuil for handling the layout and production.
As for the 2012 members' anthology, the Executive Committee has voted to cancel it. If you paid for this book via PayPal or by a check that cleared the bank, you will receive a full refund. Just let me know, or else contact our HSA treasurer, Paul Miller at pauldmiller@fullchannel.net.
Thank you!
David Lanoue
