First CRC Medical School Graduate
Yusef Tejan (r) with the CRC Post- Secondary Guidance Counselor, Princess Sallay

The Child Rescue Centre is celebrating the upcoming graduation of CRC postgraduate student, Yusef Tejan, from medical school. Yusef will graduate from the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences in February 2016 and then begin a 2 year internship, receiving specialized hands on medical training. Yusef ultimately hopes to become a research doctor specializing in infectious diseases. Sierra Leone lost its only Infectious Disease Specialist during the Ebola outbreak.

The Child Rescue Centre first began supporting Yusef in 2001 through the Child Support Program. Yusef's family were subsistence farmers who struggled to provide for their family and were unable to continue to pay his school fees. The Child Rescue Centre stepped in to offer Yusef assistance so he could continue his education. Yusef excelled academically throughout school. He was one of the top scoring students in the Bo District in Junior Secondary and Senior Secondary School.

In a recent interview, Yusef said, "When I look at myself in the mirror and see how the path of my life has changed, thanks to the Child Rescue Centre, I marvel at how a little boy who was destined to become a village farmer, is now a young man ready to serve the community as a medical doctor. Thank you Helping Children Worldwide. May the good Lord continue to bless you in all that you do."
