LDW Review
LDW 2015
Leadership from the industry's regional associations recently attended the 16th annual Leadership Development Workshop (LDW), hosted by PPAI and the Regional Association Council (RAC).  More than 160 regional volunteers representing 27 regional associations attended LDW to participate in their choice of 28 education sessions with speakers and panelists from PPAI and from within and outside the promotional products industry.

"LDW has been an outstanding event bringing together some of our industry's best leaders and volunteers getting together to network, brainstorm and strategize to create an outstanding game plan for 2016," says Ryan Small, CAS, of Blue Dog Merch and incoming RAC president.

Sue Selseth, Executive Director of UMAPP, said, "LDW always provides valuable opportunities to share information and ideas with peers, meet other association leaders and establish, or reconnect with volunteers and staff. A wide array of sessions are offered that incite creativity, promote idea sharing and provide industry-specific tools that association leaders can implement for best practices. The networking and education together make LDW a unique and rewarding experience."

PPAI President/CEO Paul Bellantone, CAE, opened the General Session & Dinner by welcoming attendees to LDW.  He also thanked PPAI Board Chair Rick Brenner, MAS, for his service leading the Government Relations Advisory Council during 2014 and presented Rick with a flag that had flown over our nation's Capitol.

Then, psychologist and humorist Bruce Christopher gave a lively and entertaining after-dinner presentation on the importance of attitude in living a successful life. Dinner highlights included the presentation of the 2015 PPAI RAC Volunteer of the Year Award to Lori Bauer (see story below).

Lori Bauer, vice president of sales, national accounts at BIC Graphic USA, is the 2015 PPAI Regional Association Council (RAC) Volunteer of the Year Award recipient.  She was formally honored at the RAC LDW opening night dinner.

Lori has been active in the Promotional Products Association of Florida (PPAF) at numerous levels--helping lead the regional association by serving on the Board and volunteering for its Expo, Expo Golf Tournament and Marketing committees. During her first term on the PPAF Board, she worked with the Membership, Speakers/Events, Expo and Legislative committees and served as Board president.

The PPAI RAC Volunteer of the Year Award is presented to regional association members who have demonstrated an outstanding level of volunteerism and leadership and who have made significant and measurable contributions to a regional association. Lori exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism and inspires those around her with her perseverance, passion and dedication to the promotional products industry at every level.

Regional Affiliate Sponsorship Program
New for 2016

The Regional Sponsorship Program has been restructured for 2016 to allow regional associations to customize their experience and interactions with PPAI. The new program will enable the regional community and PPAI to engage in new ways to address the four major pain points regionals encounter--alternative revenue channels, declining tradeshows, membership recruitment and retention and volunteer leadership development. The program is structured as an
a la carte menu that accommodates each regional association's unique needs and concerns. Click here to see an outline of the new program. Contact PPAI Regional Relations staff if you have any questions about the new program.
Regional Spotlight
PMANC and SAAC L.E.A.D. Local

In August, SAAC members Harris Cohen, MAS and Neil Levitt and PMANC members Jon Henrickson, CAS and Stacy Weiss, along with PPAI Director of Public Affairs Anne Stone and Government Relations Manager Seth Barnett conducted nearly 20 key legislative meetings in Sacramento, California.

Delegation of California Regional Members

The group discussed the value of the promotional products industry to the California economy and the effectiveness of the medium. Their message was amplified by the statewide virtual fly-in effort that gave those in the industry not in attendance the opportunity to have their voices heard by state officials.

This fourth L.E.A.D. Local event was successful thanks to the collaboration with SAAC and PMANC to create a wider reach and a more significant industry impact. Prior L.E.A.D. Local events have been held in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Texas. PPAI will continue to collaborate with all regional associations in order to deliver L.E.A.D. Local events year over year in various parts of the US.
