The Binding of Isaac, Abraham, Sarah
Everyone who gets up in the morning is alone,
bringing himself to the binding...(Yehuda Amichai)
High in the Blue Ridge Mountains, during a peaceful weekend of Shabbat rest and mountain beauty, the daily sounds of the shofar will announce the imminent new year. Together we will search for personal and communal meaning in Rosh Hashanah's central story, often called The Binding of Isaac. If the story were called The Binding of Abraham or The Binding of Sarah, would it be the same story? In what ways are we bound to the story--or bound by it?
