From The Rev. Suzie Ward,
St. Paul's, Visalia
After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go. (Luke 10:1)
So begins the Gospel lesson for Proper 9. It is also the subject of Chapter 10 in Alan Roxburgh's text Missional: Joining God in the Neighbor. In the chapter you read the "Rules for Taking the Journey." The rules are a guide about how to be present in the community where we land, listening and experimenting and becoming poets to give voice to the stories we hear.
In the book, Radical Sending by Demi Prentiss and Fletcher Lowe there is a chapter titled, "So I Send You." These authors have also chosen Luke 10. According to Prentiss and Lowe, "going" is not just about the places one goes but it is how one is to "go" to be with people. Just as Jesus had directed the 70 to go taking no baggage and staying among the people, eating what was served, these authors were echoing Jesus' words for us today.
You know, when you keep hearing the same message again and again, you begin to wonder what the Spirit is trying to tell you. We haven't figured all of it out yet but we know we are being sent.
We created a service of "Sending" to remind us. We blessed hands and feet and then everyone was "sent."Click here for service and pictures.

Preparing for Canonball Express |
Current Total: $6,899.95
Last week we introduced the Canonball Express and already have received a good response. It is our hope that our new Canon to the Ordinary will be in place well before diocesan convention. Therefore we need to start raising funds for a new car. For the Car-thedra appeal, your generosity and the expediency in which you gave was extraordinary. I hope we can duplicate that again for the Canonball Express.
Blessings,
+David

Erskine Fire at Lake Isabella: Help Needed!
|
Thank you for your calls and concern for parishioners whose property was damaged by the Erskine Fire at Lake Isabella. The good news is that 2 out of the 3 homes are repairable. One needs just cleaning, the other some electrical work and clearing outbuildings that burned. The third home burned to the waterline and there is no insurance.
Please contact Fr. Bob Woods at 760-376-2455 if you can donate or have connections to the following:
Motor home or trailer or a tiny house or house kit
Wellhead and pump motor
Financial donations to the purchase of the above.
Donations are to be mailed to:
St. Sherrian's Episcopal Church P.O. Box 1837, Kernville, CA 93238. Memo: Erskine Fire Assistance.
Thank you,
Diocesan Staff
