As you read my words, presumably on Friday, that is the day after you 'oranged-up' and two days before you 'orange-up' again, I wanted to offer this reflection to compliment your own thoughts and prayers.
As I have said on several occasions, I believe the Gospel invites us to consider ways in which we can offer a response to and participate in addressing gun violence. More specifically, engaging in the "Jesus Movement" requires nothing less of us. More specifically still, following Jesus means that we truly and deeply adhere to: "What I command you is to love one another." Jn. 14:27 Wearing orange isn't a symbolic gesture to say to the NRA, "change your views and your politics." It isn't a statement to gun owners, "give up your guns." I think the church could engage in those conversations but this isn't that conversation. This is 'Gospel in the Public Square' work. This is 'Radical Sending' whereby we live out the Gospel, take the 'Jesus Movement' seriously, follow Jesus to change the world. This is our prayerful opportunity to say that gun violence must stop in our country. It simply must stop! So 'orange-up' EDSJ and work and pray and live for a more non-violent tomorrow. Blessings +David

A Center for Learning
Sisters and brothers,
I wish to keep before you the opportunity to study and learn and grow in community. Namely, I ask that you consider taking a course perhaps two through our School for Deacons: A Center for Learning. I invite you to consider study in Old/New Testament, Church History, Theology and Christian Ethics to name a few. I will be facilitating Christian Ethics and I must say, I think this is a course each of you would enjoy and from which you would benefit significantly. And certainly other courses are offered for those exploring and called to diaconal ministry. These courses, in fact all courses, would benefit laity, clergy and clergy-to-be. We will post in the days before us costs of courses and starting dates. Again, I commend to you School for Deacons: A Center for Learning.
Blessings +David

Healthy Snacks for Church Events
With special thanks to those of you who have responded and expressed thankful interest in the possibility of healthy snacks and creating a Diocesan Cookbook.
Due to our summer season and our weather heating up here are some suggestions:
Fruit Skewers-melons, strawberries, kiwi, pineapple and mangos, use your imagination-anything is possible!
Vegetable Skewers- cheeses, herbs, tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, cucumbers, again use your imagination!
Stuffed Avocado Eggs- If interested the recipe will be included next week's Friday Reflection!
What are your thoughts on healthy appetizers or snacks for church events? Do you have any favorite recipes that you would like to share? Could your sharing of ideas possibly work into a Healthy Diocesan Cookbook in the future?
Please share your thoughts, recipes, and suggestions with me.
Thank you, Blessings and Love,
Stephanie Gilmer

Become an EfM trainer!
Every baptized person is called to ministry. The Education for Ministry (EfM) program provides people with the education to carry out that ministry. During the Service of Confirmation we ask God to "Renew in these your servants the covenant you made with them at Baptism. Send them forth in the power of the Spirit to perform the service you set before them."
EfM offers an opportunity to discover how to respond to the call to Christian service.
Training for
EfM is at Holy Family, Fresno
Thursday, June 9th @2pm through Saturday, June 11th @2pm.
The cost is $195.
No prior experience is required and a commitment to lead an EfM group is not needed.
