The Friday Reflection Title
March 11, 2016

From Bishop David

My thanks go to Tim Vivian for sending me this quote in response to my sermon during my visitation last Sunday at St. Paul's, Bakersfield.  These words do indeed echo something of what I was endeavoring to express in my sermon, more to the point, I would hope these words would be interpreted as markers on the road map on which the Holy Spirit is navigating us into the days before ahead.

"The church of the future will be driven less by 'consumer Christianity' and more by selfless discipleship. With the death of consumer Christianity . . ., worship will be less about what we get out of it and more about what we can give. Churches that endure will be less about the 'already convinced' and more about the people on the margins of the church. Effective churches will focus on the few things they can do well, rather than trying to provide a multitude of ministries."

Reception to follow                                            Clergy: red stoles

From Chancellor Michael Glass, Esq.
There was an email out from Chancellor Michael Glass yesterday. Here it is in case you missed it.

Yesterday oral argument by the parties was heard by the Court of Appeal in the Schofield case (28 properties including missions, parishes, ECCO and the funds of the Diocese).  There were no surprises and justices had clearly spent considerable time reviewing the briefs.  The Court of Appeal should issue a decision on or before June 7, 2016 at the latest.

Thank you all for your good wishes and prayers. I will issue another update as soon as we receive a decision.

In the meantime if you have any questions or concerns please email me at mglass@rflawllp.com

The pilgrimage is scheduled for September 23 to October 6, 2016, with the option of going to Jordan....Petra and possibly Istanbul.

It is time to make a decision about going and I will connect each person with the travel agent who will work out the travel details. Read more....
