From Bishop David
The very existence of the words Called to be... is to prompt and promote and proclaim something of who we believe ourselves to be in the Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin. For example, each time I have donned our Dio T-shirt, I have received the query, "What's that about?" And the funny thing is, my response is slightly too significantly different each time. I have responded thusly so: "It says that we have a purpose of some type." "It suggests that being is the step before doing." "It intimates that we cannot answer this for one another we can only help one another ponder and pray what it means, or how we respond, hence the (...). The thing is, Called to be... is designed to get a conversation going regarding who we are and why we are as Episcopalians in SJ.
The other wonderful roadmap we have is the Five Marks of Mission. It too, speaks of who and why we are and connects us to 80 million of our sisters and brothers throughout the Anglican Communion. I ask that we learn these marks. I ask that we live in and through these marks. And I ask that we engage in these marks for in doing so, we prompt, promote and proclaim Christ in our midst, we join the "being and God" and live out the ways in which we are Called to be...
Please ensure that this poster (click here) or one similar to it is available in prominent places in your parish or mission.
Bless you; bless you as we Give Thanks this week.
