The Friday Reflection Title
Thoughts, observations and reflections on recent events and occasions...

From Bishop David

I wish to offer my words of gratitude to everyone involved in making our Annual Convention the memorable occasion it was.  And thank you to our sisters and brothers at St. Paul's, Modesto for being such lovely  hosts.

The Tour Against Trafficking has come-and-gone (however, in the language of Tour Coordinator and Film Maker, Michael Fagans, Mile 1 and Mile 2 have been completed [Mile 1 was the educative and relational experience of showing The Trafficked Life and Mile 2 was the "Tour on the Saddle"]).  Mile 3 is yet to be pondered and prayed into being.

We rode shy of 800 miles, we climbed over 30,000 feet and unofficially, we raised over $50,000 for local organizations and agencies working with survivors and working to eradicate Human Trafficking.  I extend my most sincere words of gratitude to everyone involved in the Tour.  Thank you to: parishes and missions, cyclists and support people, local law enforcement and organizations/agencies, laity and clergy, anyone and everyone who made any type of contribution to our Tour Against Trafficking,
Thank you, thank you, three times thank you!

Transgender Day of Remembrance
Transgender Remembrance Day

-Deacon Carolyn Woodall

Today, November 20th, is designated as the International Transgender Day of Remembrance. It is set aside as a day to remember, and mourn, the passing of transgender people who were murdered during the previous twelve months. Why were they killed? The simple answer is fear, which turned into hatred expressed in violence.

Tonight, at St. James in Sonora, I will be reading the names of those who were killed. As I write this, my list has eighty nine people, including twenty two in the United States. By the time the service starts, there may be more. And I can assure you that the list of the deceased from which I will read is far from complete. In many places the deaths are not reported to the public, or the victims not identified as transgender. Read more...
