Sent to Bishops of the Episcopal Church yesterday.
Dear Colleagues,
Today, we begin Day 11 of the Tour and our destination is University of CA, Merced where we will engage with staff and students and press. At day's end we will eclipse over 530 miles and climbed over 25,000 feet. Far more importantly, we have enjoyed innumerable opportunities to speak during each of our stops regarding this horrific crime which we are endeavoring to address. And with equal importance, we have raised $34,000 due significantly to your support. If you have contributed to our Tour, please accept our deepest gratitude. If you have yet to contribute, please give prayer and thought to do so. We hope to raise $50,000 by next Friday at Tour's end and the opening of our Annual Convention.
We have heard in different places, "We didn't know the church did this sort of thing." Our response has been, "We most definitely do, this is who we are!"
Peace from the road.
Blessings and arohanui all
+David

#Spirit Day- Sunday October 18
|
"Spirit Day is this Sunday"
The Rev. Carolyn Woodall, Deacon
St. James Episcopal Church
Do you believe bullying is a bad thing? So does our diocese. Since 2011, the Diocese of San Joaquin has observed Spirit Day, which falls on the third Thursday of October. We have done this by designating the Sunday closest to Spirit Day as "Spirit Sunday," and encouraging everyone to "go purple," both in liturgical color and attire. This year, Spirit Sunday is October 18th, and everyone is, once again, encouraged to "go purple" and to tell others why. This simple gesture serves two purposes. It reminds us of the suffering felt by LGBT (and other) youths who are bullied, and the numbers are staggering, and lets them know that we have their backs.
What is Spirit Day, you ask? The following excerpt from the Glaad.org explains in quite nicely. For more

O God, protector of your creation, who keeps watch of its going out and its coming in: Preserve in safety the cyclists and those who travel with them; surround them with your care and protect them from every danger, that they may arrive unharmed to their journey's end. Protect also, those for whom they ride, the victims of human trafficking; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and forever. Amen.
