Bidding Adieu and Welcome
From Bishop David Rice
We may well think of him as the "Affable Abbot" or as the gentle and kind Englishman or perhaps the Pom (a slang reference to someone from his country of origin [possible meaning: "prisoner of her majesty"]) always ready with a poem or a ditty. I am, of course, talking about our colleague and friend, Basil Matthews. I am writing this reflection on Thursday at noon, in four hours time; Basil will be boarding a British Airways flight to return home. He is returning to family and to the place he has known so well and so fondly for the majority of his life. Basil arrived in the Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin in 2009; he has served as Priest-in-Charge at St. Mark's, Tracy and until very recently, Church of St. Claire of Assisi in Avery. He has served with care and generosity and gentleness. He has been a wonderful servant to parishes/missions and to the diocese. He was a member of Diocesan Council for a time. Basil will be missed! Human Trafficking Awareness to the Max in Taft!!
By The Rev. Heather Mueller, St. Andrews
St. Andrew's Episcopal Church presented a dinner to the Taft community on August 14 and the dinner was followed by a presentation about the issue of Human Trafficking. We showed Michael Fagans film and there was a panel of leaders who were there to witness and answer questions. The coordinator of the Kern County Coalition against Human Trafficking, The producer of the film, "A Trafficked Life", the director of Magdalene House, trafficked woman and several other members of the ministry teams were present that evening. There were items which were sold to help support the ministry at Magdalene House in Bakersfield. The evening was full of information and opportunities for connections. It was a well-attended evening....65 people were present.Read more

A Yellow Bag Story
by Pastor Jim Stickney
"God calls into existence the things that do not exist." [Romans 4:17]
Unlike other Yellow Bag stories, this one has not yet taken place. And yet it could be hundreds of stories that do not exist now, but easily could come into being. Read more
