Bishop David is proud to announce:
The School for Deacons in the Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin
On 18/19 September, two of our Postulants (a person seeking admission to the ordination process), Josie and Amy, will begin a two year educative process of diaconal training and formation. Put another way, Josie and Amy are the first students in our own San Joaquin School for Deacons.
Our Postulants will study: Scripture, Theology, Church History, Spirituality and all things to do with "Diaconal Ministry." The Facilitators for these courses are clergy and laity from our diocese and all are fully invested in seeing our future Deacons prepared for the ministry to which they are called. The Facilitators are: The Rev'd Michele Racusin, The Rev'd Glenn Kanestrom, Dr. Marshall and Pam Johnston, The Rev'd DeaconTeri Van Huss and the Diaconal Team. There are a number of others going through discernment processes in their local parish/mission thus we anticipate seeing the numbers of students increase next year.
SfD will take place on the third Friday/Saturday of each month, the starting dates: September 18/19. The sessions will be: 6 pm-8 pm on Fri and 8 am -6 pm on Sat. Holy Family, Fresno is the site for our school.
As I said, this will be a two year concentrated process thus everyone involved will need our support.
The School for Deacons is another example of the Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin moving forward in a forthrightly manner into the future.
I ask that you remember our Postulants and those discerning Diaconal Ministry and our Facilitators in your prayers in the days to come. read more...
