HELP US REACH OUR $50,000 GOAL
|
We are SO close to our goal of $50,000. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far, especially those of you who rose to the challenge last week during the matching gift challenge. While we did not have 100 parents participate, we did exceed our monetary goal of $3000, and our generous anonymous matching donor matched with another $3000. We have currently raised almost $40,000. With that in mind, we are extending the campaign until December 18.
At this point, 35% of our families have participated in the Annual Campaign. This equates to about 150 families. This means that nearly 350 families have an opportunity to help us reach our goal of 100% parent participation. If each of those 350 families gave an average of $30, we would exceed our $50,000 goal.
You can donate online using the link below, or visit the annual fund table this Friday at dismissal. Make a donation and purchase a yummy treat from the bake sale (if you'd like to donate some baked goods to the bake sale, we need those as well).
Gifts to the annual fund support the general operating budget of Amana, allowing us to provide more enriching educational opportunities for your children on a daily basis.
Thank you in advance for considering a gift to the Annual Fund - together we can make great things happen at Amana!

ITS RE-COMMITMENT TIME AGAIN
|
Dear Parents,
As we prepare for Open Enrollment for new students, we must calculate how many of our current students and any of their siblings new to the school will be attending Amana next year. We must have this information prior to the lottery so that we can calculate how many open seats we will have.
A $100 nonrefundable enrollment deposit is required for each new or returning student enrolling at Amana Academy for the upcoming school year. This enrollment deposit for returning students and incoming siblings is due by December 31. The deposit will be allocated toward bundled fees for a portion of Expeditionary Learning field studies costs, student classroom supplies, and field study uniforms. Families may choose to pay this deposit online in one lump sum or via a payment plan (with at least $50 due in December).
In order to reserve your seat for next year, please complete the Re-commitment Form on our website, located under the Admissions tab, December 31, 2014.

GEORGIA MILESTONE COACH WORKBOOKS ORDER NOW AVAILABLE |
Dear Parents,
Last year, the Georgia Department of Education launched the Georgia Milestones standardized test, which includes questions that require higher depth of knowledge and the ability to explain your reasoning in math and ELA. At Amana we dig deeply into the standards and feel that our students are better prepared than students that don't have the benefit of the Expeditionary Learning model, but a little review is always helpful. We are pleased to offer the Crosswalk Coach (Science & Social Studies) and Common Core Performance Coach Workbooks (Math & Reading/LA) to help your child prepare for the Georgia Milestone Assessments. This grade specific series provides students with the level of rigorous practice that is called for by the Common Core Standards. Books are available for grades 3-8. We suggest purchasing the answer guides (especially for Math and Reading/LA), since there are many questions which require a constructed response, modeling, and short essays.
They may only be purchased this year online only at:
Deadline order: Friday, December 11, 2016

The IXL board has been updated as of Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015. Look for your child's name on the IXL board in the main hallway. December is the final month for the IXL competition and we ask students to finish strong. We are proud that we have 9 students who passed the 5,000 problem milestone so far and these students will be recognized during the honors ceremony in January. For our overachievers, we have added an additional challenge with a milestone of 10,000 problems,. Safiullah Mohammed in third grade is close with 9, 445 problems and we have other students following near. All students who get their names on the IXL board will be candidates for a drawing to win an iPad!

ATTENDANCE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER
|
Hello Amana Parents/Guardians!
It's hard to believe we are approaching the end of the first semester and the end of 2015. We would like to thank each and every one of Amana's parents for their commitment to Amana Academy and their students' education. I think we can all agree that this year is going great. The following is a friendly reminder regarding religious holidays and excused absences.
- Common reasons for excused absences are as follows: religious holidays, illness, and medical/dental/legal appointments. These reasons are excused, but will still be considered as an absence.
- After a student's absence, parents and/or guardians should complete the online absence form providing a reason (link below). If Fulton County Schools are in session, but a family is observing a religious holiday, parents must complete the online form.
- The form must be submitted within 3 days of the absence. If not, the absence will not be excused.
- Whenever possible, please provide documentation (e.g., doctor's note or court notice). This documentation can be submitted directly to myself (school social worker), Sheryl Hale (data specialist), or the student's teacher.
As I monitor attendance, it appears there are still several students who have unexcused absences for Eid Al-Adha. If your student was absent from school to observe this holiday, please submit an online absence form. Any absences remaining after this date will no longer be retroactively excused.
If you have any questions about your student's attendance or would like to verify your student's excused absence(s), please feel free to email me at abelle@amanaacademy.org.
Thank you again for your assistance!
