A NOTE FROM THE SOCIAL WORKER ON ATTENDANCE |
Hello Amana Parents/Guardians!
Thank you for your awesome cooperation. This school year has started off with a bang and a large part was due to our parents!
Fulton County Schools and Amana Academy recognize that school attendance and on-time arrival is an integral part of a student's academic success. The Georgia Compulsory School Attendance Law requires parents or guardians of children between the ages of six and sixteen to be enrolled in school and regularly attend (O.C.G.A § 20-2-690.1).
We wanted to give parents a friendly reminder about tardiness to school. All students are considered late to class by 7:50 a.m. If a child is tardy, the parent is required to walk the student into the building and sign them in. Students with three or more unexcused absences and/or chronic tardiness will be required to speak with the social worker. If you have any issues with getting your child to school, please do not hesitate to contact me. We are always happy to help!
Kindest regards,
Amber Belle, LMSW

FIELD STUDY CHAPERON REQUIREMENTS |
An important part of every Expeditionary Learning school is real-world field experience, and Amana is no exception. Students and teachers are encouraged to investigate the world around them, and that means more field studies than you might see at a traditional school. With those field studies comes a need for chaperons, and we welcome parents to serve in those roles. Please check with your child's teacher on their specific chaperon needs. There are a limited number of spaces for each field study, so you should let your teacher know early if you are interested in accompanying the class as a chaperon.
For safety reasons, we have a few things we need for you to do before you will be able to accompany your child as a chaperon. Please complete the following steps:
- If you haven't ever done so in the past, please attend a 60 minute Volunteer Orientation (schedule below). If you've done this in the past, then please proceed to steps 2-5.
- Complete Mandated Reporter Training - located at this url: http://bit.ly/1oryFVU
- Complete the Volunteer Safety Info Form, Volunteer Agreement Form, and Mandated Reporter Certification Form - located at this url: http://bit.ly/1PVUgjy
- Submit completed forms to Niki Fox for processing. You can email them to: nfox@amanaacademy.org; or, you can drop them off in person at the front desk.
- Please allow 2 business days after submitting your paperwork before volunteering. The school will notify you if there are any issues with your paperwork.
If you are unsure whether you have completed an orientation in the past, please email Ms. Fox: nfox@amanaacademy.org. Mandated reporter training must be completed annually, and we need new volunteer information forms every year, as well.
Please note that there is an additional step for parents wishing to chaperon an overnight field study. Georgia law requires that all overnight field study chaperons submit to fingerprinting and an FBI background check. All overnight field studies are scheduled for 2nd semester, so it is our recommendation that you wait until 2nd semester to complete this process, since it must be completed annually, and the cost is $51, for which you are responsible. Thank you for your cooperation in completing the steps necessary to become a field study chaperon.

AMANA TO OFFER MUSIC DURING POWER HOUR AND AFTER SCHOOL |
Amana is excited to inform you that we will be offering group music classes at our school starting this fall! You have the option of registering students for weekly guitar or choir lessons during Power Hour (2:45 - 3:25) for middle school students or after school grades K-8. There is a choice of two instruments: voice or acoustic guitar! All group class sessions will be held once per week and you will be able to select your child's availability in terms of which days of the week could potentially work best for the after school group class registration. We have partnered with Musika Music Lessons, Inc. a well- established music teacher network that is rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau. They will be bringing their professional instructors to our school for these in-school and after school classes.
Registration as well as payment(s) will go directly by Musika Music Lessons. They accept credit or debit card payments through their secure registration page, and payments will not be processed until group classes are formed and finalized! This is a truly wonderful opportunity to get your children involved in music education and we're excited to get this started!
The deadline for signing up is August 31st and availability is first-come, first-served so please do not delay in registering!
If you have questions about the program, including which instrument would be best for your child, fees, or any help renting or acquiring an instrument, please call Musika Music Lessons directly at 877-687-4524 (toll-free). They are happy to help!
