IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING TARDIES
|
Dear Amana Parents:
Now that we are more than a week into the school year, and hopefully everyone has had a chance to figure out traffic patterns and transportation opportunities, we wanted to send a reminder about our tardy policy.
Amana Academy considers regular school attendance essential to successful school progress. Students must be present to take full advantage of available educational opportunities. Poor attendance or excessive tardiness may have negative results on a child's academic progress.
It is the responsibility of the parent to see that students arrive on time. School doors open at 7:30, and students are considered late if they are not in class at 7:50. Oversleeping or car trouble is not considered an excused tardy. An excused tardy would be due to illness, medical appointments that cannot be scheduled at any other time, or legal appointments. Excessive unexcused tardies (15 or more) will result in a referral to the school social worker.
Please park and come in with your child when he/she is tardy. Students are to report to the front office upon arrival, sign in, obtain a "tardy pass", and go directly to the classroom.

DOES YOUR STUDENT HAVE ASTHMA OR SEVERE ALLERGIES?
|
If your child suffers from Asthma and/or severe allergies, please be sure to turn in an SHS-1 and/or SHS-1 Medication Authorization Form and Asthma Action Plan and/or Allergy Plan completed by a Physician. You can obtain these forms from Ms. Fowler (clinic@amanaacademy.org), our school clinician. These plans provide guidance for each individual student's care in an emergency. It is imperative that we manage both health conditions. The following link from Children's Healthcare of Atlanta "Asthma and Back to School: A Dangerous Combination:" http://www.dedicatedtoallbetter.org/asthma-and-back-to-school-a-dangerous-combination/ explains that the peak time for Asthma symptoms with Asthma Attacks are #1 in the month of September.

AMANA TO OFFER MUSIC DURING POWER HOUR AND AFTER SCHOOL |
Amana is excited to inform you that we will be offering group music classes at our school starting this fall! You have the option of registering students for weekly guitar or choir lessons during Power Hour (2:45 - 3:25) for middle school students or after school grades K-8. There is a choice of two instruments: voice or acoustic guitar! All group class sessions will be held once per week and you will be able to select your child's availability in terms of which days of the week could potentially work best for the after school group class registration. We have partnered with Musika Music Lessons, Inc. a well- established music teacher network that is rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau. They will be bringing their professional instructors to our school for these in-school and after school classes.
Registration as well as payment(s) will go directly by Musika Music Lessons. They accept credit or debit card payments through their secure registration page, and payments will not be processed until group classes are formed and finalized! This is a truly wonderful opportunity to get your children involved in music education and we're excited to get this started!
The deadline for signing up is August 31st and availability is first-come, first-served so please do not delay in registering!
If you have questions about the program, including which instrument would be best for your child, fees, or any help renting or acquiring an instrument, please call Musika Music Lessons directly at 877-687-4524 (toll-free). They are happy to help!

VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION SESSIONS
|
At Amana, our motto is We are Crew, Not Passengers. This applies to students, faculty, staff AND parents. We are all part of the same crew, and that means we need everyone on board and involved from the very start. To make this process easier for the parent members of our crew, we are offering some orientation sessions that coincide with curriculum nights this year. Parents who volunteer in the classroom, or who want to serve as a chaperon on a field study, need to complete an Amana orientation session at least once (so if you attended an in-person orientation last year, you don't need to attend one this year) in addition to filling out the Volunteer Information Form and completing the state-required Mandated Reporter Training (information forms and mandated reporter training must be completed yearly). If you attend one of the three orientation sessions being offered immediately before curriculum nights, you can complete all three of these requirements at once. We encourage as many parents as possible to take advantage of this opportunity. The schedule is a follows: August 25, 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM August 26, 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM August 27, 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM For more information on volunteering at Amana, click here to visit our website |
