IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM
MS. CAMPBELL
Dear Amana Community,

It is hard to believe that the summer is coming to a close and students will begin the 2015-2016 school year on Monday, August 10th.  I hope that you have been able to enjoy some vacation time, visit with loved ones and get out and enjoy nature (when it wasn't too hot!).  I love the sense of renewal and opportunity that a new school year brings. Our staff has been hard at work preparing for an outstanding year and I wanted to take a moment to provide some updates and remind you about a few important dates. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at 678-624-0989.  See you soon!

This Saturday, July 25 we will continue to prepare the school building for the school year by doing some painting, moving furniture and tidying up. We are asking for 1.5 hours of your time (9-10:30 AM or 10:30 AM-12:00 PM or 12:00-1:30 PM). Volunteering for this request goes toward your 10 volunteer hours. Please click on the link below to let us know when you can come in and assist.

Next Saturday, August 1, our amazing parent organization, PIE, is hosting a back to school BBQ at Morgan Falls Park beginning at 4:00 PM.  We will have a special gathering for families that are new to Amana 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM, before the regular BBQ.  If you'd like to sign up to volunteer or to bring a side or snack, please visit the sign-up genius link below:

The following Friday, August 7, will be Open House where students will receive that classroom assignments and course schedules.

Please bring a check for $30 (per family) to pay your PIE membership fee and  a separate check for $20 (per student) to pay the supply fee.  The supply fee has increased to $20 for ALL grade levels this year because it will include a field study t-shirt, agenda (grades 3-8), classroom craft supplies (grades K-2), and general shared classroom supplies (K-8).  Make sure you check the website for the grade level specific supplies you need to bring on the first day of school.

We hope you are enjoying your summer! We are currently very busy preparing for an amazing new school year and want to finalize our enrollment numbers for the fall. We look forward to all our students to return in the fall; but if you recommitted to return to Amana Academy and your plans have changed, please be considerate and notify us so we can offer the seat to someone on the waitlist.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM OUR PIE PRESIDENT
Greetings Amana Parents!

I hope all had a restful and relaxing summer

As the newly elected PIE (Partners in Education) President, I would like to welcome back returning students and families! I also extend a very heartfelt welcome to our new Amana families! To all of you, I look forward to making 2015-2016 a fun and productive year.

My name is Kimberly Landsman and I am honored, as well as excited to serve as your PIE president for the 2015-2016 school year.  Working alongside of me is Cyndi Said, Marcia Godoy, Jessica Spraggins, Tiya Tukes and Sharon Mumbi.  We are grateful to all the amazing and talented parents who are involved with the PIE and contribute their time and talent in many ways, big and small.

To the PIE Executive board, committee chair leaders and all of our volunteers, I look forward to working with all of you this school year, some for the first time. I know we will have a great year because of the dedicated and amazing volunteers we have at Amana.

PIE Membership costs only $30. Your membership dues ensure that your child will have opportunities to engage in fun learning experiences and social events throughout the school year. All additional funds that PIE has at the end of the school year are reinvested in the school.

Over the past year your PIE dues have enhanced your child's education in the following ways:
  • Assisting families with field study fees
  • Purchasing books for the media center
  • Celebrating our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week
  • Enhancing the Amana Learning Garden
  • Purchasing picnic tables for the middle school
  • Investing in the Raptor Visitor Management system for the school's lobby and front desk
We could not do this without the money we raise through membership and other activities - and just imagine how much more we could do if we reached 100% participation and every family joined PIE. The purpose of PIE is to first and foremost support our students. In addition, it supports the faculty, staff, parents, and the local community.

An effective and successful PIE requires support and involvement of the parents of our students. It is vital. Your first opportunity to show support is to become a member of the Amana Academy PIE.

The second way to show your support will be to participate in the numerous exciting events and programs that we have planned throughout the year; Grandparents Day, Family Fun Events, Roswell Youth Day Parade, Squawk and Walk Carnival, and many more. You may choose to be a committee chair, committee member, or volunteer. Whatever level of participation you choose, your time and involvement will be greatly appreciated. Many parents feel that they cannot participate in PIE because they cannot attend meetings or be at school during the day. Whether you have 30 minutes or a couple of hours in or outside of school hours, your ideas, your time, and your talents are truly needed. There are endless possibilities in ways you can help.

Research shows that students whose parents are involved in their education have better grades and fewer discipline problems. We promise that the time you give to the PIE and the school will be worth your while-and fun! Please consider volunteering, it really does make a difference in The lives of all our children!

PIE will continue to focus on improved communications with parents.  WE HOPE YOU WILL VISIT THE WEBSITE OFTEN AT www.amanaacademy.org for updates.   On behalf of the PIE executive board and all the volunteers who give their time so freely and enthusiastically, I thank you for your support.  If at any time during the school year, you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me at the school PIE email address or visit us at the school.

Again, welcome back and have a great year!

Sincerely,
Kimberly Landsman
Amana Academy PIE President
