AMANA PLANS FOR CAREER FAIR

Amana Academy is proud to host its first elementary Career Day on February 26th.  This event satisfies the requirements of the Georgia College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI).  In order for Amana Academy to qualify for the highest possible CCRPI score, we must have speakers available to discuss career options in each of the 17 mandatory career categories.

Who is needed?

Engaging speakers!  Parents are encouraged to participate and Amana Academy also welcomes relatives, neighbors and business associates.

The main criteria are:

The ability to engage students on an age-appropriate level. The ability to speak about general educational requirements of careers in these fields. The speaker will not cancel at the last minute.

Ideally Amana Academy would like to find one presenter per career cluster for a total of 17 presenters.  However the State of Georgia will also accept a single presenter or a group of presenters who are able to tie all career clusters for a single grade into a cohesive career "story".

What is needed?

Presentations and engagement should be approximately 20 minutes. Speakers should feel comfortable with their presentation and the age group to whom they are speaking.  In the lower elementary grades, for example, presenters might use a picture book to introduce their profession and springboard questions.  In upper grades, presenters might use trivia or a quiz show format to break the ice.  Speakers are encouraged to think of hands-on activities that might be possible in this time period. Feel free to utilize samples of work, equipment, pictures, video, etc.

Ms. Edirmanasinghe will need to preview an outline of your presentation in advance.  An optional coaching session will be available to assist presenters with refining their presentations.

The typical audience size will be one classroom of generally 24 students. The speaker will rotate between each of the four classes in that grade.  A total of approximately 96 students per grade level will be reached by each speaker. Final counts can be provided to speakers in advance.

Key Dates for this Event:

  • Interested parties should contact Ms. Edirmanasinghe by Monday, February 16th at nedirmanasinghe@amanaacademy.org.
  • Presentation outlines are due by Friday, February 20th.
  • Optional coaching sessions will be offered February 23rd - 25th
  • Career Day is Thursday, February 26th from 8:30-11:00AM.

Speakers are welcome to enjoy the Presenters Lounge between morning carpool and event start.
