IMPORTANT - COMPLETE RE-COMMITMENT FORM FOR 2015-16

Dear Parents:

As we prepare for Open Enrollment for new students, we must calculate how many of our current students and any of their siblings new to the school will be attending Amana next year. We must have this information prior to the lottery so that we can calculate how many open seats we will have.

In order to reserve your seat for next year, please complete the Re-commitment Form on our website, located under the Admissions tab, December 31, 2014.

JANUARY ENROLLMENT WAITLIST
There are a few slots available for mid-year enrollment.  If you have friends in Fulton County who are interested in sending their children to Amana in January, please let them know that we are accepting applications to the wait list.  Students will be accepted in the order in which they are added to the wait list.  There are only a few slots available in each grade (5th grade has the most openings); but, an acceptance in January guarantees a seat for the 2015-2016 school year.  Click here for the online pre-enrollment application (gets you on the wait list only).  This pre-enrollment must be completed prior to the end of December.

Please note that wait lists do not carry over from year to year.  If a student is not accepted for January enrollment, parents must re-submit an online pre-enrollment application during open enrollment (January 1 - January 31, 2015) for the 2015-2016 school year.
EARLY DISMISSAL POLICY REMINDER

We ask that you take a moment to review the following information from the parent handbook regarding early dismissals. It is important that parents adhere to these guidelines for the safety of our students, and for efficiency when locating students throughout the building.  Please note that early dismissal ends at 2:30 PM Monday - Thursday and at 12:30 PM on Fridays.

From pages 11 &12 in the 2014-2015 Parent Handbook:

When a student needs to be excused early for any reason, notify your child's teacher in writing by 9:00 AM on the day you want your child dismissed. If you are picking up another child at the same time (other than your own), then please have the child's parent contact their teacher informing them that you will be picking up the child.  The note must include the following elements:

  • Student Name
  • Parent Signature
  • Early Departure Time
  • Parent Phone Number
  • Reason for Early Departure
  • Time Returning to School, if applicable

In order to ensure the efficiency of our dismissal process and to allow time for our staff to prepare, we ask that you send in a note with your child or call the front office at the beginning of the day.  If we do not receive notification prior to 2:30 pm, your child will have to remain in school until dismissal time (3:05 PM for Elementary and 3:20 PM for Middle) - no exceptions.  When picking up your child, a parent must come into the building via the school entrance and sign the child out on the Early Dismissal sheet.  If someone other than a parent will pick up a child during the school day, a parent must submit to the office a signed note with the information listed above, as well as the name of the individual picking up the child.

GRANDMA AND GRANDPA ARE INVITED FOR GRANDPARENTS DAY AT AMANA!

In honor of National Grandparents Day, Amana welcomes grandparents of elementary school students to Amana's annual Grandparents Day event on November 21, 8:00 AM - 10:15 AM. This annual event is also open to other special guests.

Guests will have a chance to meet their students' teachers and classmates, participate in a learning activity, and visit photo booths with their students. Refreshments will be available throughout the building for a quick nibble or drink. Attendance is free. However, guests are welcome to participate in our library book donation program ($10 per book) or donate an item from the classroom wish list ($20 and up). Amana is thankful for the support of its families!

We ask that parents RSVP for this popular program. RSVP's help our teachers plan their in-class activity and insures that Amana Academy reserves sufficient parking spaces close to the building for our guests. Please RSVP here  as soon as possible.

BE A GRANDPARENTS DAY VOLUNTEER!

Grandparents Day is one of the most popular events of the year, and it is just around the corner! Come be a part of the action and sign up as a volunteer! A variety of one- and two-hour slots are available throughout the event. Grandparents Day will be held Friday, November 21 during school hours. Put your name down here and help welcome our Amana grandparents!

For questions, contact Laila Swanson at nswan_07@yahoo.com.

Thank you for volunteering!

KINDERGARTEN SERVICE PROJECT
Kindergarten's Community Service Project needs your help!  As part of the Fall Expedition of study " My American Story" we are collecting small size toiletries (shampoos, conditioners, tooth brushes, tooth paste and soaps) to donate to refugees and immigrants.  The Kindergarten will be putting these items in decorated shoe boxes to be delivered to North Fulton Community Charities.

Please place your items in a bag marked with your student's name and homeroom and your student will have a chance to win a pizza party for their class!   The class with the most participation will win the pizza party!

Thank you for supporting the Kindergarten's Service Project!
LOST AND FOUND TO BE DONATED NOV. 21
Parents - please encourage your students to check the Lost and Found in the Cafeteria and the Front Lobby for any items they might be missing.  Any unclaimed items left in the Lost and Found will be donated at the end of the school day on November 21.  Non uniform items will go to North Fulton Community Charities and uniform items will be given to PIE for use in their used uniform sale.
BRING A NOTE FOR YOUR TEACHER DURING THANKFUL TOTES WEEK

The week of November 17 - 21 is Thankful Totes Week! Each classroom teacher will have a customized tote in their classroom. Students are asked to bring in personal notes and cards to fill their teachers' tote during the week on as many days as they wish. It's a great time for Students, Parents and Staff to write and share handwritten notes to show appreciation for all the hard work and effort that teachers dedicate to our children.

Specials teachers, support staff, and administration will also have Thankful Totes. Let's remember to appreciate all of them! Staff who do not have a classroom will have their totes placed in the front lobby.

Teachers and staff appreciate small gifts as well! Please give gift cards directly to the recipient rather than placing in the tote.
