UPCOMING VOLUNTEER ORIENTATIONS

If you missed the volunteer orientations held on Curriculum Night in August, the school has scheduled upcoming monthly orientations. Volunteer orientations ARE REQUIRED for volunteers who interact regularly with students, including crew parents, class readers, club volunteers, or field study chaperones.

At the orientation, you will learn how to be a volunteer at Amana, get help with filling required paperwork, and be able to ask any questions you have about volunteering. You will also learn whether your specific volunteer duties will require a background check, and be given instructions on how to get one.

Volunteer orientations will be held monthly from 12 - 1 PM on the following Fridays. All orientations take place at the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, 11605 Haynes Bridge Rd #100, Alpharetta, GA 30009.

  • October 24
  • November 14
  • January 23
  • February 20
  • March 20
  • April 17
IF YOU ARE UNABLE to attend these times, you have two options. Emergency orientation sessions may be scheduled by contacting Lemiya Alexander at

lalexander777@gmail.com

Alternately, you may view this presentation IN ITS ENTIRETY and fill out the form at the end, in addition to filling out the required forms (check the volunteer approval process  page for details).

VOLUNTEER AT WORLD DAY

Haven't fulfilled your 10-hour volunteer requirement yet? Or maybe you just want to be a part of Amana's biggest event of the year? Volunteer at World Day and help make it a success!

Sign up here!

World Day will be held Saturday, October 25, 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM. We look forward to seeing you there!

CELEBRATE OUR DIVERSE CULTURES AT WORLD DAY - OCTOBER 25

Come to Amana Academy's World Day this Saturday, October 25 and take a tour of all the cultures that make up the Amana community! World Day will be held 11 AM -2 PM (note time change) at school. Bring your students to scavenge the country booths for facts and get their "passports" stamped as they tour the world. Then stop in the cafeteria to watch local entertainment on stage while you sample foods from a variety of cuisines.

Entrance is FREE. Food and henna will be available for purchase.

Amana's Executive Director, Ehab Jaleel, will also be delivering the State of the School address during the event. This annual address is an update on Amana's achievements since last year, and our progress in implementing new strategies and programs.

World Day is a reincarnation of Amana's traditional International Festival. This year, we are aiming to return to the roots of the event as it existed in the early days of our school, when the focus was on tasting and experiencing the cultures of the world. A carnival-type event is scheduled for the spring and will coincide with the Squawk & Walk fundraiser.

We look forward to seeing you all there!

DUCT TAPE MR. JALEEL TO THE WALL!
In addition to World Day, this Saturday, October 25 also marks the kick-off of our Annual Campaign fundraiser.  To make it fun, we're extending a challenge to our families - anyone who makes a donation on (or before) Saturday will receive a piece of duct tape (on Saturday), which they can use to DUCT TAPE MR. JALEEL TO THE WALL.  Our goal for Saturday is to reach $10,000 in donations - if we get there, then Mr. Jaleel has agreed to take this challenge and let participating families duct tape him to the wall at the end of World Day.  You can donate in person the day of the event, or you can go ahead and donate online by clicking here.

LAST WEEK TO BRING IN BOX TOPS!
Box Tops Logo

This is the last week to send in your Box Tops for Education for the contest. All Box Tops must be turned in by Friday, October 24th to count toward this Fall's collection contest. The winning class gets a Sky-Zone party!

Please do not tape or staple Box Tops or labels to anything, and be sure expiration date is not ripped off of the Box Tops. Thank you for supporting Amana!

For questions, contact Rose Louis at jamilapeek@yahoo.com.
SUPPORT AMANA WITH PURCHASE OF TYSON PRODUCTS

Amana is participating in the Tyson Project A+™ program, sponsored by Tyson Foods, Inc. Through this program, we can raise up to $12,000 for our school this year!

Here's how it works: Just clip and collect Tyson Project A+ labels from participating TysonŽ product packages and send them to school with your Box Tops for Education. Please be sure to send in the whole label, not just the Project A+ symbol. We'll collect the labels and send them to Tyson Foods, and Tyson Foods will send our school a check. Each label is worth 24˘!

Contact Tracie Burr at amanayearbook@gmail.com to answer any questions you have about the program. You can also find details, including the list of participation products, online athttp://ProjectAPlus.tyson.com.

Your donations are appreciated!

ROSWELL RECREATION BASKETBALL FOR BOYS AND GIRLS AGES 4-15
Although Amana does not offer an extramural sports program for Elementary School students, we do encourage parents to get students involved in sports at an early age so they are prepared to participate when they get to Middle School.  The Roswell Recreation & Parks Department is accepting registrations for their Winter Basketball Season now.

Please contact Coach Sandlin (jsandlin@amanaacademy.org) with questions about basketball.  Information about registering with the Roswell Rec basketball program is below:

Be sure to go online and register now at www.roswellgov.com for the upcoming Winter Basketball Season.  This year we are offering leagues for boys and girls ages 4-15 years old.  In addition high school students can form their own teams and register for the Teen League Basketball program.

Evaluations for the Youth Boys Basketball Program begin this Saturday, October 25th and evaluations for the youth girls program will be held on October 28th.  The program is filling quickly and registration could be closed any day, so it is important to register now before it is too late.
