DON'T BE LATE!
|
As a reminder, school starts at 7:50 AM for all students. Students entering the front doors after the bell has rung will be marked tardy. Parents of late-arriving elementary school students should accompany their children into the lobby to sign them in. Middle school students may sign themselves in. Students must receive a tardy pass before proceeding to class.
We appreciate your efforts to ensure that your students are at school and in class on time!

PICTURE DAY CLARIFICATION - STUDENTS SHOULD WEAR UNIFORMS |
Flyers for fall picture day came home earlier this week, and there was some misinformation in them (the flyer suggested that students should dress in "colorful clothing" for picture day). Please note that students should be neatly dressed in their school uniform for fall picture day. These are the photos that we will use in the yearbook.
We will offer spring pictures in March, and students may wear non-uniform clothing at that time.
This year we are partnering with Village Photography Group, Inc. Picture day is on Monday, October 6, with a make-up day of Monday, November 3.

In an effort to teach our students more about personal wellness and nutrition, our School Nutrition Manager, Ms. Tami Amuzie, is working with teachers to involve students in planning some of our lunch menus each month. This month, Kindergarten classes took part in choosing a balanced meal, and it will be featured this coming Friday, September 26. They are studying America, and the colors red, white and blue, so their menu is centered around those themes. Here's what our creative kindergartners came up with:
- All American Meatball Hoagies on Roll (Protein, Grain and Red/Orange Veg.)
- Fresh Veggie Sticks W/Dip ( Carrots & Celery )
- Mini Pretzel Twist ( whole grain healthy carb.)
- Strawberry/Blueberry Salad W/Whipped Cream ( fresh fruit selection)
- Milk (Protein, Vitamin D)
Our All American Meal is full of the Red/Orange Vegetable Group. -
Tomatoes and Carrots are an excellence source of Vitamin A and C. These vegetables are great for eyes because they contain Lycopene.
-
Celery is full of antioxidants and is an anti-inflammatory, meaning it helps get all the bad toxins and unwanted water out of the body. Celery is also a good source of Vitamin C.
- Fresh Berries are one of the best sources of Vitamin C. Berries help your body digest Fats, Proteins and Carbohydrates. They are naturally sweet and a little tart but taste delicious.
- All of our grains are whole grains. Whole grains are high in fiber and good carbohydrates. Whole grains fuel our body and give us good energy.

PIE President Sara Ead has chosen to step down from her role due to personal and professional commitments. PIE appreciates the passion and commitment she brought to PIE during her leadership and wishes Sara the best.
As part of the process of seeking candidates, the PIE Board is reaching out to the parent community for nominations. Please use this form to submit your nomination. PIE Rules of Operation specify that the PIE Board vote to fill a position vacated mid-year. Seeking nominations is an attempt to involve parents in this important decision.
The new PIE President will join a dedicated team of officers and committee chairs who have developed plans for the year. Leading PIE is an exciting and challenging job, but definitely doable!
Until a new PIE President is selected, Sheila Boyd, Vice President of School Support, will serve as interim President. She may be contacted at amanaacademypievpss@gmail.com. Questions regarding the selection process may be directed to Serene Taleb-Agha, Secretary of PIE, at pie.amana.secretary@gmail.com.

GET INVOLVED IN WORLD DAY |
Amana's World Day is just a little over a month away, and will be here before we know it! It takes many hands to organize and execute big events like World Day. If you haven't already signed up to express your interest in getting involved, it's not too late!
A World Day planning meeting will be held Thursday, September 25 at 6 PM at the Parent Center. Any parent interested in volunteering is welcome. Volunteers will be briefed on the overall plan for the event, then we'll work together to divide event responsibilities and create sub-committees. This meeting is a very important step in the planning process. Please try to attend if at all possible. If child care is an issue please feel free to bring your kids along.
Please contact Faride Delgado: faridecrewparent@gmail.com for any questions. The Parent Center is located in suite 109-A, between the school main entrance and Satay House.
