SPIRIT WEEK OFF TO A GREAT START!

Spirit Week is off to a great start.  Amana students have talked about ways they can perform random acts of kindness for each other, discussed college and career readiness, and today they're learning how each of us can do one small thing to help the environment and make the world a better place.  They love seeing our Expeditionary Learning design principles in action each day!

Spirit week isn't over, though - take a look at the schedule for the next two days:

Thursday, September 11 - World Day (staff and students will celebrate their heritage by dressing in heritage dress - Acitivity: Pinwheels for Peace; EL Design Principles: Diversity & Inclusion, The Primacy of Self Discovery)

Friday, September 12 - Amana Spirit Day and Whole School Community Circle at Alpharetta Community Center (Wear Spirit Wear - Whole School Community Circle; EL Design Principles: Collaboration & Competition, The Having of Wonderful Ideas)

HANDS-ON-AMANA GARDEN CLEAN-UP (PICNIC POSTPONED)
It's time to prepare our garden beds for fall planting so that Amana students can take advantage of the learning opportunities they provide.  We need your help to make that happen.

Join us on Saturday, September 13 from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM for our first Hands On Amana day of the school year.
We'll pull out plants that are no longer producing, pull weeds and clean up trash that might have collected in the beds.  We'll also need a team to work behind the school cleaning up a section of our property that contains an overgrown concrete retention pond.

If you are available to help, please click here to sign up. We will work from 9 until Noon.

Originally we'd planned to host a bring-your-own picnic gathering in Wills Park afterward, but so far we haven't had many people sign up.  Amana will still provide water for folks coming to help with the garden clean-up, but
the picnic in the park has been postponed.  Thanks!
ATTENTION PARENTS OF AMANA GRADUATES OR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS

It is Amana Academy's unique privilege to offer our students Arabic world language instruction, and we are happy to announce that we plan on partnering with award-winning Intrepid Travel to offer a safe overseas cultural experience of a lifetime for our middle school students and alumni. Our destination for this year will be the Kingdom of Morocco during Spring break - April 3rd-11th, 2015.

The total cost per person will be approximately $2,000. This estimate includes airfare, transfers/transportation, hotel accommodations, most meals, and a dedicated tour guide.

Please CLICK HERE to complete an interest form and to be invited to an information session on Friday September 19th at 1:15 PM.

PIE ALL-PARENT MEETING

Partners in Education (PIE), Amana's parent organization, will hold its Fall general meeting for all parents on Wednesday, September 17 at 6:00 PM in the Parent Center (located in suite 109-A, in between the school main entrance and Satay House restaurant). Learn what's happening at Amana, find out about activities PIE has planned for the school year, and spend some time getting to know other parents!

Pizza will be served. To help us with quantities, please RSVP if you plan to come. We look forward to seeing you!

For questions, contact Sara Ead at saraeadamanapie@gmail.com.

TIME TO BRING IN BOX TOPS!
Box Tops Logo

It's Box Tops competition time! Parents please start sending in those Box Tops in with your little ones.  We'll be collecting box tops until October 24. This year the winning class will receive a free Sky Zone party!

Last year Amana raised over $600 through Box Tops alone! Let's double that this year!  For questions, contact Rose Louis at jamilapeek@yahoo.com.

CLUBS TO CANCEL DUE TO LOW TURNOUT

We had a great turn-out at our Clubs Expo a few weeks ago, but a number of the clubs have reported very low or no turnout now that they have started meeting.  A number of the vendors will cancel their club offerings if they don't have enough students sign up.  Please take a minute to visit the Activities page on the Amana website and contact the club sponsor if you are interested in having your student participate in a club after school.

JOIN AMANA AT PIEDMONT PARK FOR NATIONAL PUBLIC LANDS DAY

Join us on Saturday, September 27, from 8:00 AM until 12:00 noon at Piedmont Park for National Public Lands Day. This event is organized by REI in Atlanta.
