WELCOME TO THE EAGLE WEEKLY! |
Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year, Amana families, and to the first edition of the Eagle Weekly Updates! This publication will be delivered to your in-boxes weekly, so please make sure you add us to your safe senders list, and check your SPAM folders to make sure we're not getting buried there. This will be the main source of communication for what's going on each week at the school, so we want to make sure we're reaching as many families as possible. If you hear that someone is not receiving our emails, please ask them to drop us a note at info@amanaacademy.org. We will get in touch with them to make sure we have their correct information. |
SIGN UP FOR THE SCHOOL NUTRITION PROGRAM |
Amana takes great pride in its School Nutrition Program. The manager of the School Nutrition Program, Tami Amuzie, has a master's degree in Dietetic Nutrition and takes great care to ensure that the meals that are prepared for our students are healthy and delicious. We encourage everyone to participate in the program.
This year, it's even easier to participate - you can add money to your child's online account and receive notifications when the account drops below a certain amount. To sign up online, visit www.paypams.com.
You also have the option to just purchase milk for your child if you send a lunch from home. You can add money to their PayPams account ($.50 per day for milk only) and we will charge them for milk only when they come through the line to pick it up.

INFORMATION FOR T.A.G. PARENTS |
Your first TAG newsletter is on its way to you! Watch your inbox for the August TAG newsletter from your new TAG coordinator, Maria Singman (nee Annunziata). For more information on the TAG program at Amana, contact Mrs. Singman directly at mannunziata@amanaacademy.org. |
As a reminder, all boys in grades K- 8 will be required to wear a belt beginning the 2014-2015 school year, and shirts will be required to be tucked in. Another addition to next year's school uniform includes a new recommended, high-quality shoe. The recommended shoe is the Merrell Jungle Moc for boys and girls. If you do not choose to purchase the Merrell Jungle Moc, please remember that uniform shoes should be solid black or brown, including the soles and any decorations.
Amana's Uniform Dress Code will be fully enforced beginning Monday, August 25th. Dress Code violations are subject to Fulton County School's Discipline Code. Parents of students who are not in compliance with the Uniform Dress Code will be called to bring appropriate Uniform clothing, or to pick the child up if appropriate clothing is not immediately available.

TARDY POLICY ENFORCED BEGINNING AUGUST 18 |
Beginning Monday, August 18, students arriving after the bell rings at 7:50 AM will be counted tardy. Parents of late-arriving elementary students should accompany their children into the school and sign them in. Middle School students will sign themselves in. All late-arriving students must have a tardy slip to be admitted to class. |
AGENDAS FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS |
New this year, agendas were included in the list of supplies that parents were to purchase for elementary students. Parents may purchase agendas at their preferred retail store (i.e. Staples, Office Depot, Wal-Mart, etc). Amana agendas are for Middle School students ONLY. If you turned in money for an Elementary agenda, please contact your child's teacher for a refund. Thank you. |
AFTERNOON CARPOOL MOVING RIGHT ALONG |
Thank you for you patience with afternoon carpool these first few days of school. Our wait times have gone down each day, and we believe they will decrease exponentially once after-school clubs and programs commence. We appreciate your continued patience. |
SAVE THE DATE FOR CLUBS EXPO! |
Join us Friday, August 22 at 1:00 PM in the cafeteria for our annual Clubs Expo. See what after school clubs and activities are available for students at Amana. We look forward to seeing you there! |
SAVE THE DATE FOR CURRICULUM NIGHTS! |
Each year, Amana invites parents into the classroom to learn more about what their children will be learning during the school year. This is your chance to dive into the curriculum with your child's teacher, ask questions and get answers. We encourage all parents to attend. The schedule for this year's curriculum nights is as follows:
August 26, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM - Grades K-3 Curriculum Night August 27, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM - Grades 4-5 Curriculum Night August 28, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM - Grades 6-8 Curriculum Night
We look forward to seeing you there! |
GET INVOLVED AND VOLUNTEER! |
At Amana, our motto is We are Crew, Not Passengers. This applies to students, faculty, staff AND parents. We are all part of the same crew, and that means we need everyone on board and involved from the very start. To make this process easier for the parent members of our crew, we are offering some orientation sessions that coincide with curriculum nights this year.
Parents who volunteer in the classroom, or who want to serve as a chaperon on a field study, need to complete an Amana orientation session in addition to filling out the Volunteer Information Form and completing the state-required Mandated Reporter Training. If you attend one of the three orientation sessions being offered immediately before curriculum nights, you can complete all three of these requirements at once. We encourage as many parents as possible to take advantage of this opportunity. The schedule is a follows:
August 26, 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM August 27, 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM August 28, 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM
