Parents who are unable to attend during their allotted time can come to the later (or earlier) session if need be.

After you visit your child's class and stop by the information tables for School Nutrition, Transportation and After School, head to the Parent Center, where PIE representatives will be available to answer questions and help you figure out how you can get involved at Amana.  Here are a few important messages from PIE:
  • The PIE Activity Fee has been reduced this year! Parents are asked to pay $20 per family. The Activity Fee funds community-building and enrichment activities held throughout the school year. A separate check should be written to "Amana Academy" and handed to the student's teacher along with the Supply Fee at Open House.
  •  A Used Uniform sale and Spirit Wear sale will take place during Open House. Shop for gently used uniform shirts and pants at very reasonable prices! The sale will be held in the Parent Center, located in Suite 106, between the main school entrance and Satay House Restaurant.
  • Still searching for the perfect volunteer opportunity to fulfill your 10-hour requirement? PIE has a lot of activities planned and would love your help! Look for signup sheets in each classroom, and also at the PIE table outside the Parent Center!

BACK TO SCHOOL PICNIC

Join us at Amana's first annual Back-to-School Picnic on Aug. 9, 6 PM - 8 PM. Come reconnect with the Amana friends you haven't seen all summer! New families will get the chance to meet their Buddies and ask questions as they prepare for the new year.

The picnic will be held at beautiful Morgan Falls Park. The park contains woodsy trails, wooden swings looking out onto a lake view, and a unique and accessible playground for kids.

Kosher hot dogs, watermelon, and water will be available. Families are encouraged to bring additional food items for themselves or to share with friends.

Click here to view the invitation or RSVP. Please RSVP by August 2 to help us with food quantities.

For questions, contact Sara Ead at saraeadamanapie@gmail.com.

We look forward to seeing you!

NEW PIE OFFICERS

PIE wishes to welcome Faride Delgado as the Vice President of Programs for the 2014-2015 year. Faride was chosen to fill the position left vacant after PIE elections in April due to a lack of nominees.

In addition, a new officer position has been created on the PIE Executive Board to focus on Middle School affairs. The Vice President of Middle School will devote her time to enriching the Middle School experience and developing extracurricular programs that specifically target the Middle School. Melissa Jackson was elected to fill this position by the PIE Executive Board.

Both Faride and Melissa bring an amazing amount of ideas and energy to their respective jobs. All of us at PIE look forward to working with them!

UNIFORM POLICY UPDATES
All boys in grades K- 8 will be required to wear a belt beginning the 2014-20
15 school year. Shirts will be required to be tucked in.

Another addition to next year's school uniform includes a new recommended, high-quality shoe. The recommended shoe is the Merrell Jungle Moc for boys and girls .

The Merrell Jungle Moc can be purchased through Buckhead Uniforms. The Merrell Jungle Moc serves as the uniform shoe of choice and the Adventure/PE shoe of choice.

Additionally, we have added a navy dress from French Toast (item number 1354) to the selections for girls in Kindergarten through third grade.

Please read the complete 2014-15 Uniform Policy below:

At Amana Academy, we recognize that there is a strong, positive correlation between appropriate attire, good work habits and good character. When dress and appearance are characterized by cleanliness, neatness, modesty and safety, children generally have a more positive attitude toward themselves and those around them. Uniforms are an indispensable feature of Amana Academy. In our efforts to maintain an elevated standard of personal appearance, promote a dignified school climate, and foster school pride, we have prepared the following uniform and appearance guidelines.

Per Fulton County Schools discipline code, students who do not comply with the school's dress code will be allowed to adjust/change clothes if able, or they will be sent to OTO (office time out) until a change of clothes can be obtained. Classes missed will be unexcused.

General Considerations:

  • Each component of the uniform must be complied with, daily. The Amana school uniform is not negotiable and may not be manipulated to accommodate personal style or interest. No changes are permitted, regardless of temperature or weather change.

  • Boys must have shirts tucked in at all times, and belts must be worn.

  • Uniforms should be neat (no rips, tears or stains) and clean at all times.

Make-Up

  • No make-up allowed in grades K-3.  Grades 4-8, neutral colors only.

  • Girls may wear nail polish, clear or light colored only

  • No nail polish containers may be brought to school

  • Girls are not permitted to wear chopsticks, knitting needles or hair pins to put their hair up

  • Headbands and hair ornaments are permitted in NAVY or WHITE

Jewelry and Accessories (Male and Female Students):

  • For safety reasons, "choker" style necklaces are NOT allowed

  • Stud earrings only

  • All necklaces, rings, wrist watches, and bracelets should be simple enough not to distract from learning

  • Sunglasses are for outside use only

Outerwear

  • Students may wear outerwear (jackets and coats) of their own choosing to school. However, only the approved navy Amana polar fleece is permitted inside of the building.

  • If students must wear a second layer under their uniform shirt, it must be the same color as the uniform shirt, may not hang below the hem of the uniform shirt, and the sleeves may not show.

Confiscated Items:

  • Accessories or articles of clothing found in violation of the Dress Code will be confiscated and will only be returned to the parent or guardian.

  •

Statement of Absolute Compliance:

  • Absolute compliance with the Amana Academy school uniform is expected. The uniform is not subjective or open to interpretation.
