SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR MARCH 17-21

Hola Amana Parents:

The Scholastic Book Fair will be at Amana Academy March 17-21 in the Library!

There will be over 600 titles to choose from and books start at $2.00.  Your children will be visiting the Book Fair to purchase books or to browse during the week when it is their Library day. The Book Fair will be open to purchase books during the following times:

Monday, March 17 from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm

Tuesday, March 18 from 7:30 am - 8:30 am Bagels and Books (Parent Event)

Tuesday, March 18 from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm

Wednesday, March 19 from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm

Thursday, March 20 from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm

Friday, March 21 from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm

March 13, will be set up day and March 21, will be take down day.

We have plenty of opportunities for people to volunteer at the fair, if interested please contact us or go to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0444A5AE2DA20-scholastic.

The Amana Teachers will be creating a "Wish List" of books they would like for their class.  These books will be available for purchase at the fair.

New to us this year is we will be doing All for Books.  One of our goals is to ensure as many children as possible receive books and have access to books. One of the ways we can do that is through this program. With your help, all of the money collected goes to purchasing books for these children.  Bring in 25¢ and get a lollipop.

AGAIN this year, will be the online Book Fair.  It will run March 21 - April 1.  The online fair will have the same titles plus more and is open to the Amana Community, friends and family.  The easiest way to find this fair is http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/amanaacademy.

All proceeds from the fair will be given to the Library so we can buy new books for our children.

We are so excited about this Book Fair and look forward to seeing you there!

Julie Amos Waugh and Kristina Leidner-Eisenhardt

Scholastic Book Fair Committee Chairs

We encourage parents to shop the fair with their children.  Book Fair workers are not responsible for the book reading level or the content of the book.  There are no returns or exchanges of books.

RISING GRADE LEVEL MEETINGS
Parents:

Rising grade level meetings are next week! Please save the date! We will be sharing information regarding your child's curriculum and grade level for next year and giving you tips on how to help your child be successful for the upcoming CRCT tests (grades 3-5).

We look forward to seeing you there!
PARENTS - PLEASE COMPLETE GADOE SURVEY BY MARCH 14

Parents, please take a moment to complete the survey linked below from the Georgia Department of Education.  It should only take about 5-10 minutes, and it will provide valuable feedback.  Simply click on the image below to access the survey.  Thank you!

BE A SQUAWK & WALK  SPONSOR

Do you own your own business, or work for a local business that might be interested in sponsoring the Amana Academy SQUAWK & WALK?  This is a great opportunity to feature your business while at the same time supporting a great cause.  All proceeds from the SQUAWK & WALK will benefit the annual fund at Amana.

If you're interested in learning more about this partnership opportunity, please take a look at our sponsorship materials, and then contact Niki Fox (nfox@amanaacademy.org) or Sara Ead (saraeadamanapie@amanaacademy.org) to discuss all of the options and benefits associated with each.

ELEMENTARY GRADES STRATEGIC PLANNING FOCUS GROUPS
As we start a new charter term, our Board wants to update our strategic plan to reflect our goals for the next five years, and we need input from Amana Parents. Over the next few weeks, we will be conducting a series of focus group meetings, and it's very important that we have strong attendance and participation from our parent community.

The final focus group meeting (for parents with students in grades 3-5) is tonight, Thursday, March 13 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM (childcare and refreshments provided).

This process will culminate with a strategic planning workshop on March 27 at the Board Town Hall meeting. Everyone is invited to attend this meeting.
STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES MARCH 14 AND 21
Parents are encouraged to sign-up for student-led conferences with teachers on March 14th (1:30 - 6:30 PM).  March 21st is offered as a make-up day.   This Expeditionary Learning practice engages students and their families in conferences in which students communicate their progress toward both academic learning targets and habits of scholarship.
JOIN THE OUTDOOR ADVENTURE CLUB'S HIKE TO ROSWELL MILL DAM
The Outdoor Adventure Club invites you to its first activity of the season, a one-mile hike to the beautiful Roswell Mill dam on Vickery Creek. The hike will take place Saturday, March 15. We will meet at 10 AM in the parking lot in front of the old Roswell Mill (the large red brick building) at 2 Mill St., Roswell, GA 30075. Departure will be promptly at 10:15 AM. All students are welcome to attend accompanied by a parent or responsible adult. If you plan to join, please CLICK HERE to RSVP.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO HELP TEST MICROSCOPES
Do you still need to complete your of volunteer hours?  Ms. Schepis in 7th grade needs a few good volunteers to come in and help her test microscopes in her science lab to make sure they are in working order.  If you're interested in helping with this activity over the next week, please sign up using the sign-up genius link.
STOCK UP ON BOX TOPS PRODUCTS
Hello Amana Families.  Time to get to the store and stock up on your Box Tops Products.  We will begin our Spring Box Tops Collection contest on March 12th!  And this time, our contest will run a bit longer to give everyone lots of time to collect great amounts of box tops for your classes.  The end date of the contest will be April 30th.  Hopefully we will end the school year with a big announcement of our BIGGEST earnings from box tops ever!!!  Please contact Marcy Morantz with questions: 404-610-4682 or mdmorantz@comcast.net
HELP TALA BUDEIR COLLECT ART SUPPLIES FOR SYRIAN CHILDREN
Tala Budeir is a 2nd grade student at Amana Academy. She presented a TEDxYouthDay talk last fall at TEDxAmanaAcademy on Syria.  Her talk connected with the EL Design Principle of Empathy and Caring. Tala believes that art can help the Syrian children feel happy.  She has started an art supplies collection at Amana Academy.  Art supplies like crayons, sketchbooks, coloring pencils, markers etc.. can be donated from now until the end of the month into specified containers. Tala has gotten support from a number of people outside of Amana Academy as well. Her project is being supported by Maria Zulfiquar, an Amana Academy alum! For more information please see her TED talk: http://www.ted.com/tedx/events/8484
