PREPARE FOR PERFECT UNIFORM WEEK
February 10-13 is Perfect Uniform Week at Amana.  Students will be expected to demonstrate full compliance with the uniform policy.  As a reminder, here are examples of appropriate dress at Amana (click on the image to be taken to a more in-depth document on the uniform policy):

We all know that school uniforms can have a positive effect on student learning, so we want to get back on track with promoting good compliance with our uniform policy by using a specific week to remind families what proper uniform is at Amana.  We are designating the week of February 10th as "Perfect Uniform Week".

Beginning February 10, any student out of uniform shall be sent to the office, where they will be given the opportunity to call their parent or guardian and ask them to bring the appropriate clothing.  The child will remain in the office until the appropriate clothing arrives.

As always, if parents are in need of financial assistance in getting the appropriate uniform for their child, they are to inform Ms. Lambert at llambert@amanaacademy.org.  We will be happy to work with them to get what their child needs.

PLEASE: Familiarize yourself with our uniform policy and pictures of proper uniform.

NEW TIME FOR PIE GENERAL BODY MEETINGS

The next meeting will be held onTuesday, February 11, 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM, in the Parent Center, located at suite 109-A, in between Satay House and the main school entrance. Come find out what's happening at Amana and learn ways you can get involved!
LEARN MORE ABOUT CCRPI AT THE PIE GENERAL BODY MEETING

Dear Amana Parents,

The Georgia Department of Education plans on communicating 2012-2013 CCRPI results next week.  The College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) is a comprehensive school improvement, accountability, and communication platform for all educational stakeholders that will promote college and career readiness for all Georgia public school students.  The Index will include scores that easily communicate to the public how a school is doing. Each school will receive a score out of 100 points, just like what students receive in their classes.

LEARN MORE ABOUT CCRPI  on Tuesday 2/11 at 8:30 AM at the PIE General Body Meeting.

While CRCT scores are the primary driver for the CCRPI index, the State DOE has made changes to the scoring of the index; so we are not sure how our scores will compare to last year.  One thing we do know that we will not receive all the available points because last year we were unable to conduct computer online career inventories with students.  While our Expeditionary Learning approach exposes students to many types of careers, our school counselor is ensuring our students use the online tool this year for the 2013-2014 score (published in 2015).

RE-COMMITMENT - DEADLINE EXTENDED TO FEB 7!
Dear Parents:

As we prepare for Open Enrollment for new students, we must calculate how many of our current students and any of their siblings new to the school will be attending Amana next year. We must have this information prior to the lottery so that we can calculate how many open seats we will have.

In order to reserve your seat for next year, please complete the Re-commitment Form on our website, located under the Admissions tab, by February 7, 2014.

DRAMA CLUB PRESENTS "BEAUTY IS A BEAST"
HELP TALA BUDEIR COLLECT ART SUPPLIES FOR SYRIAN CHILDREN
Tala Budeir is a 2nd grade student at Amana Academy. She presented a TEDxYouthDay talk last fall at TEDxAmanaAcademy on Syria.  Her talk connected with the EL Design Principle of Empathy and Caring. Tala believes that art can help the Syrian children feel happy.  She has started an art supplies collection at Amana Academy.  Art supplies like crayons, sketchbooks, coloring pencils, markers etc.. can be donated from now until the end of the month into specified containers. Tala has gotten support from a number of people outside of Amana Academy as well. Her project is being supported by Maria Zulfiquar, an Amana Academy alum! For more information please see her TED talk: http://www.ted.com/tedx/events/8484
FOR 8TH GRADE STUDENTS AND PARENTS
Various high schools in the Fulton County Schools system are hosting meetings for rising 9th graders.  As we receive word about them, we will pass the information on to our students and their families.  Sessions that take place during the school day will be considered an excused absence.

See you in the Library!

The Copy Room is also looking for volunteers to make photocopies for teacher and staff use.  Slots are available in two-hour chunks, Tuesday through Thursday, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM.  Training is provided.  Sign up here, or contact Michelle Bard at LeedesLady@aol.com with questions.
