AMANA COMMUNITY RALLIES DURING #SNOWMAGGEDON
Amana's motto, We are Crew, Not Passengers, was evident this past Tuesday as our community came together to ensure the safety of our students and to make sure that everyone made it home safely.  We had staff members who hung in at the school until every last student was picked up, and parents willing to bring food and blankets to make sure that everyone was comfortable and fed.
Once everyone left the school (around midnight), our caring community continued their work to make sure that everyone was okay. Parents checked in on Facebook and via email and phone; staff members kept up with coworkers and students who were on the road late into the night Tuesday and throughout the day on Wednesday.

One of our carpool buses that travels to south Fulton remained stuck in traffic until Wednesday afternoon, and we had parents and staff members in continuous contact with them, trying to make sure that every last one of our students made it home to their families - which they did around 2:30PM. Finally, around 4:00 PM on Wednesday, we accounted for the last of our staff members via Facebook.

Throughout it all, the Amana family demonstrated
empathy and caring and service and compassion.  Thank you to everyone - students, staff, parents and community members - for all that you did to help during this time of need.

Now that everyone is safe and warm, we'd love to see your photos and hear your stories from the last few days.  You can upload your photos to Facebook and tag Amana Academy, or use the hashtag #Amana; or, if you don't use Facebook, email your photos and stories to info@amanaacademy.org.  We'll share them on our website, Facebook page, and in next week's Weekly Updates.
STUDENTS WAITING IN THE COLD

Please note that students should not be dropped off in front of the school before 7:30 AM, which is when the lobby doors open.  While this is the policy year-round, it is especially important during the winter months when temperatures are below freezing.  Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

FULFILL YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS REQUIREMENT IN THE COPY ROOM

Still wondering how you can serve your volunteer hours at Amana? If you're available in the day, volunteering at the Copy Room is an easy choice! The Copy Room is looking for volunteers to make photocopies for teacher and staff use. Slots are broken up into two hour increments Tuesday through Thursday, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Training is provided.

Sign up here, or contact Michelle Bard at LeedesLady@aol.com with questions.

PREPARE FOR PERFECT UNIFORM WEEK

We all know that school uniforms can have a positive effect on student learning, so we want to get back on track with promoting good compliance with our uniform policy by using a specific week to remind everyone what proper uniform is at Amana.  We are setting the week of February 10th as "Perfect Uniform Week".

Beginning February 10, any student out of uniform shall be sent to the office, where they will be given the opportunity to call their parent or guardian and ask them to bring the appropriate clothing.  The child will remain in the office until the appropriate clothing arrives.

As always, if families are in need of assistance in getting the appropriate uniform for their children, please contact Ms. Lambert at llambert@amanaacademy.org.  We will be happy to work with you to get what your child needs.

Please familiarize yourself with our uniform policy and examples of appropriate dress.

AMANA'S LEARNING GARDEN

We hope you are as excited as we are about our new Learning Garden project!  Follow our progress by visiting our Learning Garden website.

Join us for a Hands On Amana service day on Saturday, February 1 from 9AM until 2PM.  We will be preparing beds in front of the school for planting.  To volunteer for this project, please click here.

The Amana Academy Garden Club will begin meeting on February 22.  If you are a parent who is interested in helping with this club, or you want to sign your students up for this club, please click here.
RE-COMMITMENT - SAVE YOUR SEAT FOR 2014-15!
Dear Parents:

As we prepare for Open Enrollment for new students, we must calculate how many of our current students and any of their siblings new to the school will be attending Amana next year. We must have this information prior to the lottery so that we can calculate how many open seats we will have.

In order to reserve your seat for next year, please complete the Re-commitment Form on our website, located under the Admissions tab, by January 31, 2014.
