CELEBRATE NATIONAL SCHOOL CHOICE WEEK! |
January 26th through February 1st is National School Choice week, and Amana is celebrating! We're kicking off the week with an Open House for prospective families on Sunday, January 26 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, followed by a School Spirit Day on Monday, January 27 ( order your spirit wear now). We'll close out the week with a Hands On Amana service project for our school's new Learning Garden on Saturday, February 1.
School choice means empowering parents with the freedom to choose the best educational environments for their children - from traditional public schools to public charter schools, magnet schools, private schools, online learning, and homeschooling. Amana recognizes the value of these choices, and we're grateful that you've chosen to entrust us with educating your children. Let's celebrate together!

NEWS FROM THE MEDIA CENTER |
CELEBRATE NATIONAL READING DAY ON JANUARY 23RD
This annual event is observed in thousands of schools across the United States. It is designed to help students develop the necessary literacy foundation to become lifelong learners and readers. Join us in celebration as we drop everything and read during ELA. Ask your teacher if there is an opportunity for you to come in as a mystery reader!
AUTHOR EVENT - LAURIE HALSE ANDERSON
The 8th grade students all read Laurie Halse Anderson's book "Chains". Ms. Anderson has written a new book titled "The Impossible Knife of Memory," which she is going to discuss at her upcoming visit to the City of Decatur Library this Friday, January 17 at 7:00 PM. The event is free to the public and is hosted by Little Shop of Stories. Decatur Library is located at 215 Sycamore Street, Decatur, GA 30030.

RE-COMMITMENT - SAVE YOUR SEAT FOR 2014-15! |
Dear Parents:
As we prepare for Open Enrollment for new students, we must calculate how many of our current students and any of their siblings new to the school will be attending Amana next year. We must have this information prior to the lottery so that we can calculate how many open seats we will have.
In order to reserve your seat for next year, please complete the Re-commitment Form on our website, located under the Admissions tab, by January 31, 2014.

FAMILY FUN NIGHT AT CHUCK E. CHEESE |
Our first Family Fun event of the new year will be at Chuck E. Cheese's on Friday, January 17th from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM. That's right - we can close the place down! And the best part about all this fun - 15% of all token and food sales benefit Amana! Don't forget the extra coupons in your Family Fun Newsletter and bring any coupons of your own to make the night extra fun. And don't forget to tell the cashier that you are with Amana!

See you there!

PIE WELCOMES NEW TREASURER |
Mehreen Siddiqui, who assumed the role of PIE Treasurer at the start of the 2013-2014 academic year, has decided to resign from her role due to a changed job situation. PIE is grateful for the dedication and professionalism that she brought to the position during her tenure, and we wish her the best.
PIE rules specify that a vacant officer position can be filled by a vote of the remaining officers. Melissa Blalock has been chosen to assume the new role. As a certified public accountant who has served as treasurer with other nonprofit organizations, she is particularly qualified. Melissa has also been a dedicated and energetic volunteer for PIE, having organized Amana Family Fun events since the beginning of the year. All of us in the PIE organization look forward to working with Melissa!
