STUDENTS IN GRADES 3-8 TO TAKE MAP TEST |
Dear Amana Parents and Guardians:
During the period of January 13-January 31, 2014, students in grades 3-8 will take the Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®) Test. The MAP Test will determine the level of academic growth in language, reading and mathematics from September 2013 to January 2014. MAP is a computer based adaptive assessment.
MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child's level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. Over the next three weeks, your child will spend a total of about three hours completing these tests. The MAP data will guide and focus instruction to support students' learning and application of the curriculum. The school will share results with parents in February 2014.
We are truly excited to begin a new era that focuses on every child's individual growth and achievement. For more information on resources for parents, download the Parent Toolkit at www.nwea.org >> Partner Support or contact Christian Harden, at charden@amanaacademy.org.
Sincerely,
Christian Harden

RE-COMMITMENT - SAVE YOUR SEAT FOR 2014-15! |
Dear Parents:
As we prepare for Open Enrollment for new students, we must calculate how many of our current students and any of their siblings new to the school will be attending Amana next year. We must have this information prior to the lottery so that we can calculate how many open seats we will have.
In order to reserve your seat for next year, please complete the Re-commitment Form on our website, located under the Admissions tab, by January 31, 2014.

NEW BACKGROUND CHECK PROCEDURES |
If you think you might want to chaperon an overnight field study this semester, please make sure you follow the new procedures for obtaining a criminal background check. Remember overnight chaperons are considered Tier 3 volunteers. Here are the rules for Tier 3:
Tier 3 - Volunteers who have contact with students without direct supervision on or off campus will be required to complete the following:
- attend a 60-min. Volunteer Orientation (schedule will be published on our website),
- submit the AA Volunteer Conduct Confidentiality Agreement (distributed at the orientation),
- submit the FCS Parent Volunteer Information Form (distributed at the orientation)
- complete mandated reporter training and submit the certificate of completion
- submit to a criminal background check/fingerprinting. To initiate this process, please email Liz Lambert: llambert@amanaacademy.org.
Please note that we no longer accept fingerprints and background checks from the Alpharetta Police Department. If you have one of the old criminal background check forms, please discard it and contact Liz Lambert for the new procedures.
