HAVE A WONDERFUL, RELAXING WINTER BREAK
It's hard to believe there are only two days left in this first semester!  We hope you'll take the next two weeks to enjoy your time with your families, relax and refresh.  We look forward to seeing you back at school on January 7 (remember, January 6 is a teacher work day - students don't come back until Tuesday) ready to start second semester.  Have a wonderful Winter Break, and we'll see you in 2014!
MAKE A YEAR-END TAX-DEDUCTIBLE GIFT
There are only 13 more days left in 2013, and that means it's time to think about making those year end charitable donations.  What better place to direct those dollars than your child's school?  All gifts postmarked between now and December 31 will count in 2013, and they will also count toward the grade-level competition.

Here's where we stand in that competition so far:

Kindergarten - 16%
First Grade - 60%
Second Grade - 14%
Third Grade - 33%
Fourth Grade - 17%
Fifth Grade - 18%
Sixth Grade - 19%
Seventh Grade - 14%
Eighth Grade - 11%

Overall, our parent participation is at 23%, and we've raised a total of $27,591.

You can donate online using our secure online giving site, or drop your cash or check donation off in the box in the lobby - we've even got extra donor cards at the front desk if you need one.  No amount is too small, and every dollar is much needed and appreciated!
RE-COMMITMENT - SAVE YOUR SEAT FOR 2014-15!
Dear Parents:

As we prepare for Open Enrollment for new students, we must calculate how many of our current students and any of their siblings new to the school will be attending Amana next year. We must have this information prior to the lottery so that we can calculate how many open seats we will have.

In order to reserve your seat for next year, please complete the Re-commitment Form on our website, located under the Admissions tab, by January 31, 2014.

PARENT SURVEY - WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK
We value your opinion and ask that you take the time to complete our Fall Parent Survey

by Sunday 12/22. Our parent survey format comes from Advance-ED, our accrediting agency.  In order to complete the survey please click on the following link: http://www.advanc-ed.org/survey/public/7483975

Reminders & Tips:
  • Please be assured that your responses to this survey will be anonymous. Your honest opinion is appreciated.
  • Since the survey does not ask for feedback on specific staff members, please feel free to use the Open-Ended Questions in section-7 for this type of feedback.

Thank you for your time and attention to this request.

LOST AND FOUND TO BE DONATED

Parents, please note that all non-uniform lost and found will be donated to North Fulton Community Charities on December 20th.  Uniform items left in the lost and found after December 20th will be donated to the PIE used uniform sale.  If you think an item of your child's clothing might be in the lost and found, please come get it before next Friday.

Beginning in January, lost and found will be sorted and donated every two weeks.  Students should check regularly for lost items.

NEW BACKGROUND CHECK PROCEDURES

If you think you might want to chaperon an overnight field study next semester, please make sure you follow the new procedures for obtaining a criminal background check.  Remember overnight chaperons are considered Tier 3 volunteers.  Here are the rules for Tier 3:

Tier 3 - Volunteers who have contact with students without direct supervision on or off campus will be required to complete the following:

  1. attend a 60-min. Volunteer Orientation (schedule listed below),
  2. submit the AA Volunteer Conduct Confidentiality Agreement (distributed at the orientation),
  3. submit the FCS Parent Volunteer Information Form (distributed at the orientation)
  4. complete mandated reporter training and submit the certificate of completion
  5. submit to a criminal background check/fingerprinting.  To initiate this process, please email Liz Lambert:  llambert@amanaacademy.org.
Please note that we no longer accept fingerprints and background checks from the Alpharetta Police Department.  If you have one of the old criminal background check forms, please discard it and contact Liz Lambert for the new procedures.

FRIDAY IS THE LAST DAY TO ORDER DISCOUNTED YEARBOOKS

2 Days of Pre-Order Time Left

Your child's discounted yearbook - full of wonderful memories - is available at a special rate of $32 until Friday, December 20th. After this, the rate will increase to $40!  Save money now by ordering your 2013-14 Amana Academy Yearbook before winter break.

Remember: The Grade Level which orders the highest number of books during the pre-order period will win a signing party at the end of the year!  So far there is a tight race. Any one of the grades could win with just a little effort.

Order forms are available HERE. Place your completed forms and checks in the PIE Mailbox on the wall in the main lobby.

For the next two Fridays, you can also order yearbooks in person (check or exact cash) at the table in our school lobby.

Don't have time to print a form and write out a check?  Then use your time wisely and order ONLINE.
