| GOVERNANCE BOARD MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT |
|
Amana's Governance Board will hold it's monthly public meeting on November 16 from 9:00 AM-10:00 AM. All meetings of the Amana Board are posted to our website calendar and open to the public unless designated as "executive session" where, by law, the Board must convene in private to discuss land, legal or personnel items. Any vote resulting from executive session discussion, however, will occur in an open public setting.

| SOME AFTERNOON DISMISSAL REMINDERS |
|
Parents who forget their carpool tag for afternoon dismissal will be redirected to the lobby and asked to wait until 3:30 (1:30 on Fridays) to pick up their children. Dismissal is a very busy time, and the more we can all do to make the process a smoother one, the easier it will be for everyone involved. By having your carpool tags at the ready, Amana staff members (even substitutes, or those staff members who are temporarily filling in and might not immediately recognize our parents) can easily identify who is supposed to be picking up children and who is not.
We appreciate your cooperation as we continue to make Amana a safe and nurturing learning environment for your children.

| GRADE-LEVEL COMPETITION: 1st GRADE TAKES THE LEAD! |
1st Grade has stolen the lead from 3rd in the Annual Fund grade-level competition. They are currently at 31% parent participation. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has already made their commitment to this important fund, and to those crew parents in the 1st grade who have made this effort a priority! 3rd isn't far behind with 23% parent participation, and Kindergarten is creeping up behind them with 11% - it won't be long now before we're all in double digits. As a whole, we're at 11% parent participation - which is MORE THAN DOUBLE where we were last week.
 Here are the class rankings: Kindergarten - 11% 1st Grade - 31% 2nd Grade - 8% 3rd Grade - 21% 4th Grade - 5% 5th Grade - 6% 6th Grade - 5% 7th Grade - 3% 8th Grade - 3%
Remember, the grade-level with the highest percentage of parent participation at the end of the semester will receive a free out-of uniform day. And every student whose family donates will be entered in a weekly drawing to be Principal for the Day. You can donate online through our secure fundraising page, or you can send your donation in to the school in the form of cash or a check made payable to Amana Academy. Make your gift go further by participating in your company's matching gift program. Not sure if your company matches charitable donations? Visit our Double the Donation page to see if they offer an employee matching gift program.

Parents and students, please join us for our first "Love Totes" week to show our Amana teachers our appreciation. During the week of November 18-22, please bring in handwritten notes to your homeroom and specials teachers. Place them in the Love Tote which will be provided by your crew parent so your teachers can enjoy reading your kind words over the break!

| PARENT CENTER RIBBON CUTTING - NOV 18 |
|
You are invited to join us on November 18 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM for a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of the new Amana Academy PIE Parent Center. This center will be located in office 109-A (to the right of the main building if you are facing the school). The Parent Center will be a meeting place for parents to plan activities at the school, a gathering place for parent events, or simply a place to meet other parents. Join us in honoring the generous donors and volunteers who helped make this vision a reality! We hope to see you there.

| TEDxAmanaAcademy - NOVEMBER 16 |
 TEDxAmanaAcademy is an independently organized TEDxYouthDay event. TEDxYouthDay events happen all around the world in early November, around Universal Children's Day. The events are designed to empower and inspire young people. Hosting a TEDxYouthDay event at Amana Academy allows students to showcase Expeditionary Learning's Design Principles students are encouraged to live by. You are invited to this event on November 16, 2013 from 1:30p.m.-3:00p.m.
Tickets can be reserved through EventBrite. We have a maximum of 100 tickets available on a first-come-first-served basis, so make your reservations quickly to make sure you get a spot. |

| FOOD DRIVE FOR REFUGEES IN ATLANTA |

Amana Academy is happy to partner with Alif institute and IRC (International Rescue Committee) to help assist newly arrived refugees in Atlanta.
The 6th grade Arabic class students are leading this campaign and asking all Families at Amana to generously donate non-perishable food items to those in need to make a meaningful difference to the displaced families the IRC serves.

| IT'S BOX TOP CONTEST TIME! |
It's time to start your Box Top engines! The Box Top Collection Contest has begun, and will run through November 21. So, take your students to the grocery store and hunt down some Box Top products. Also, please be on the lookout for brand new Box Top Collection Boxes in all of your students' classrooms and further details about what the winning classrooms will win as prizes. In the meantime, collect and clip those Box Tops and help our school earn cash for every Box Top you send in! THE EXCITEMENT STARTS NOW!!!
