SAFETY UPDATE AND EARLY DISMISSAL |
With the help of Alpharetta Police Officer Sean Woods, this past Monday our school conducted a combination Intruder Drill / Fire Drill to practice for such emergencies. Our staff and students did wonderfully!
Another safety matter that we take seriously is accounting for every student at all times during the school day. We have noticed that many parents are coming to the front desk asking to pick their child up early (for a doctor's appointment, etc.) without having notified the teacher in advance.
To help us avoid safety mishaps and to avoid interrupting instructional time, please recall that when you need to pick up your child early on regular school days, make sure to notify your child's teacher in writing by 9:00 AM on the day you want your child dismissed. If you are picking up another child at the same time (other than your own), then please have the child's parent contact their teacher informing them that you will be picking up the child.
The latest time we can honor early dismissals is 2:30 PM Monday - Thursday and 12:30 PM on Fridays.

UPDATED VOLUNTEER POLICIES |
Per Fulton County Schools, Amana has updated its volunteer policies and procedures.
Please note that anyone wishing to volunteer at Amana in any capacity must submit a Volunteer Information Form and complete mandated reporter training. This must be done each school year. Volunteering involves regular interaction with our student body. A law (OCGA 19-7-5(c)(1)) was put into effect in 2012 that requires all volunteers to participate in a training on the reporting of suspected child abuse. The training is available online through Fulton County Schools, and only takes about five minutes to complete. Once you've viewed the slideshow and answered the questions, you will be awarded a certificate that you can print as proof of having completed the training.
This certificate should be submitted, along with a completed Volunteer Information Form, to the front desk at Amana before volunteering begins. You can access the Volunteer Information Form by clicking here, or pick up a copy at the front desk of the school.
Please visit our website for additional requirements if you are volunteering as a chaperone for day-time field studies and for overnight field studies.

NOW ACCEPTING PHOTO SUBMISSIONS FOR THE 2013 YEARBOOK! |
Yearbook is looking for photo submissions of your children involved in school activities! So many events are already underway, from community circles, whole school programs, athletics, and club activities. We have also had two wonderful Family "Fun"d Events. This week classes will be working on their Scarecrow Harvest projects and celebrating Grandparents Day as well as helping to fulfill our stewardship promises by participating in Rivers Alive, National Public Lands Day and Hands on Amana.
Did you take photos at these events?
Are you planning to take photos at upcoming events?
Have your students been taking photos with their phones or cameras?
If so, please remember to submit your photos to the YEARBOOK staff for this year's memory book.

FAMILY "FUN"D NIGHT AT CHICK-FIL-A |
Join us on October 1 at the Chick-Fil-A on Windward Parkway for another Amana Family "Fun"d event. Proceeds from events like these directly benefit students at Amana because a portion of the day's sales are donated to the school.
Our last event at Pizza Hut helped raise nearly $50, so be sure to thank them the next time you're in there.

HANDS-ON AMANA - OCTOBER 4-5 |
Parents and friends of Amana - as we get closer to the grand opening of our new middle school wing, we need your help with freshening up the cafeteria with a new coat of paint. Hands On Amana is a great tradition at our school where parents, alumni and friends work on facilities volunteer projects. Please click here for the sign-up form. This will be a three day process starting Friday, October 4th and ending Sunday, October 6th. You can sign up for a 2-hour window on any of the three days. We need people to tape the edges, move furniture, paint walls and clean up. Parents may bring children, but they must be supervised at all time. |
